Korn's Brian "Head" Welch" & Jennea Welch Talk Their "Loud Krazy Love" Rock Doc

Thunderous. Angry. Cathartic. The sound Brian “Head” Welch helped pioneer with KoRn in the early ‘90s provided identity to a generation of misfits and made him a global rock star. Famous, wealthy, and worshipped in the spotlight, an adolescent self-loathing relentlessly haunted him in the shadows—until the day a tiny miracle was born. By the time he walked out on a $23M record deal in 2005, desperate to kick a devastating crystal meth habit, all he wanted was to become a good father. "Loud Krazy Love" details the harrowing journey of Brian and his daughter Jennea growing up together with chaotic courage and unconventional faith. Far beyond a rock doc, this transformative coming-of-age story grapples with teenage depression, the quest for identity and the hope of a father willing to do anything for the one he loves.

>>> WELCOME TO BUILD SERIES. WE'RE LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY. WE'RE EXPERIENCING FANDOM WHETHER ITS K-POP, MARVEL UNIVERSE IN HOLLYWOOD. NONE OF THAT COMPARES TO INTENSITY OF KORN AND KORN KIDS. AT THE HEIGHT OF THE HYSTERIA BRIAN WELCH WAS TRYING TO BE A NEW FATHER. "LOUD KRAZY LOVE" TRAILER, CHECK IT OUT RIGHT HERE.

>> THE WINNER IS KORN.

>> SHE'S CUTE. I HAVE MEMORIES OF WHEN MY DAD WAS IN KORN.

>> I LOVE YOU, DADDY.

>> PEEK-A-BOO.

>> IT CHANGED MY PERSPECTIVE ON HOW I SAW LIKE LOVE.

>> FROM THE BAND KORN.

>> EVERYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT.

>> MAKING DRINKS, LINES, JOINTS.

>> I'M GOING TO BE A NEW PERSON. I'M A DAD. I'LL JUST HAVE A COUPLE BEERS.

>> I SAW NAKED CHICKS WALKING AROUND.

>> HE WAS A MASTER AT HIDING IT.

>> I WAS JUST SCARED THAT I WAS GOING TO SCREW UP THE KID LIKE I WAS SCREWING UP MYSELF.

>> I HAD AN ADDICTION TO METH, METHAMPHETAMINE.

>> ALL THE OTHER KIDS HAD THEIR MOM AND DAD COME TO MOTHER'S DAY OR FATHER'S DAY.

>> I COULDN'T STOP BEING BAD TO MY BODY. I COULDN'T STOP THESE ADDICTIONS.

>> I HAD BECOME AN ANIMAL. I JUST LOOKED UP, AND I SAID, FATHER, DO ANYTHING YOU WANT TO MY LIFE. HOW DO I PAY A PHONE BILL.

>> HOW CAN YOU CHANGE SO SUDDENLY.

>> HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS REAL.

>> IT'S LIKE, I'M QUITTING KORN. I'M GOING TO STAY HOME. I'M LIKE, WAIT, IS THAT EVEN ALLOWED.

>> I WAS DEVASTATED.

>> GOD TELLING ME TO DO THIS.

>> THAT WAS AN ACT OF LOVE FOR HIMSELF AND HIS DAUGHTER.

>> BUT I IMMEDIATELY STARTED MAKING BAD CHOICES.

>> HE HAD BEEN PHYSICAL, PUNCHING HOLES IN WALLS.

>> SHE COULDN'T CONNECT WITH ANYBODY.

>> I ASSUMED THINGS WERE GOING TO BE DIFFERENT.

>> PEOPLE OFFERED DRUGS.

>> I GOT PHYSICAL. I FLIPPED TABLES.

>> I CAN'T CONTROL MY RAGE. I'M STRESSED OUT.

>> I WANTED SOMEONE TO REALIZE I'M HURTING.

>> SHE SAID I CUT MYSELF BECAUSE OF YOU.

>> I GAVE UP EVERYTHING FOR YOU. \M\M \M\M

>> EVERYBODY THAT DOESN'T LIVE THEIR LIFE LIKE THIS, THAT'S WHAT'S CRAZY.

>> JOINING US NOW ON STAGE BRIAN AND JENNEA WELCH.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> GOOD TO BE HERE.

>> IT'S GOOD TO HAVE YOU GUYS HERE. HOW ARE YOU?

>> TIRED.

>> TIRED.

>> NOT MUCH SLEEP I HEARD OVER THE PAST.

>> HER DADDY WAS A ROCK AND ROLLER, SO THE MORNING ISN'T GOOD FOR ROCK AND ROLLERS.

>> I'VE HEARD. WE APPRECIATE IT ALL THE MORE. AS I SAID, THE STORY IS REALLY AT THE CORE OF IT IS SORT OF YOU TWO. IT'S A LOVE STORY, A STORY ABOUT FAMILY. THE WHOLE PROCESS OF MAKING THIS FILM, BRIAN, YOU DESCRIBED AS LONG AND STRESSFUL. I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE ROOT AND INITIAL STAGES OF THE PROJECT. WHERE DID THE INITIAL IDEA COME TO MAKE A MOVIE.

>> IT GOES BACK TO 2005 WHEN I LEFT KORN, MTV CAME TO ME AND THEY WERE STARTING A NEW SPIRITUAL SHOW. THEY WANTED TO FILM MY JOURNEY. I WAS LIKE, SURE. WE WENT TO ISRAEL. THEY FOLLOWED ME TO NEW YORK AND DIFFERENT PLACES WHERE I WAS DOING THINGS. THE SHOW FELL THROUGH, AND SO I GOT ALL THE FOOTAGE. SO FAST FORWARD TO FIVE YEARS AGO, 2013, THE FILM, BACK WITH MAYO, THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GREAT STORY, ME GOING BACK TO KORN. THE FIRST EDIT WAS TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES, THE STORY WAS ME GOING BACK TO KORN. WE WATCHED IT AND HAD AN AHA MOMENT WHERE IT WAS LIKE, THAT'S NOT THE STORY. THE STORY IS THE FATHER AND DAUGHTER. SO THEY DID ANOTHER EDIT, TOOK OUT ALMOST AN HOUR OF THE MOVIE AND MADE IT ABOUT ME AND HER. SO WE HAD TO GO FIND OLD FOOTAGE OF HER, THE SWIM MEET, HER BEING BORN. THAT STUFF I DIDN'T KNOW WE HAD. 25 TERABYTES OF FOOTAGE THEY WENT THROUGH AND FOUND PRICELESS FOOTAGE.

>> SWIM MEET, WHICH YOU WON. I'VE GOT TO GIVE YOU PROPS ON THAT, FOR THE RECORD.

>> THANK YOU.

>> APPLAUSE, BELATED, OF COURSE. JENNEA, WHAT WERE YOUR INITIAL THOUGHTS WHEN DAD COMES TO YOU. THIS DOCUMENTARY YOU YOU MAY HAVE PART OF ALREADY. THIS ISN'T GOING TO BE ABOUT KORN, THIS IS GOING TO BE ABOUT US. ANY APPREHENSION ON YOUR PART?

>> FOR SURE. WHEN THEY CAME TO ME AND MY MENTOR TIFFANY WITH THE IDEA, I WAS ALREADY IN THE MIDDLE OF INTENSE COUNSELING AND THERAPY. SO I DON'T KNOW, I JUST HAD THIS PEACE ABOUT IT, MAYBE IF I SHARE MY STORY, IT WILL HELP OTHER KIDS AND ADULTS, PARENTS. OF COURSE THERE IS APPREHENSION BECAUSE I WANT TO PROTECT ME AND MY DAD AND OUR STORY. BUT NO, I THINK I PUT MY SELFISH THOUGHTS ASIDE, I GUESS, AND WAS LIKE THIS CAN HELP PEOPLE. I NEED THOUGH SHARE THIS.

>> ABSOLUTELY. I HAVE TO IMAGINE JUST THE PROCESS FOR BOTH OF YOU WAS INCREDIBLY THERAPEUTIC TO FILM AND SHOOT THIS DOCUMENTARY. WATCHING IT BACK HAS TO BE THERAPEUTIC TO WATCH YOUR SELF IN THAT WAY. JENNEA, WHICH DO YOU THINK WAS MORE THERAPEUTIC, GOING THROUGH THE DOCUMENTARY OR WATCHING IT BACK NOW AS A FINISHED PIECE.

>> I THINK WATCHING IT BACK?

>> YEAH.

>> I THINK BACK A YEAR OR TWO AGO ME AND HIM WATCHED THE ROUGH CUT. IT WAS TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES. ME AND MY MENTOR AND HIM, WE HAD TO PAUSE A COUPLE OF TIMES AND CRY AND TALK IT THROUGH. SOME YELLING, JUST WORKING THROUGH THE HARD THINGS. AND SO, YEAH, I THINK WATCHING IT BACK WAS REALLY THERAPEUTIC. HONESTLY, I THINK IT MADE US CLOSER, BECAUSE WE WATCHED EVERYTHING WE HAD BEEN THROUGH. THERE'S LIKE THIS COMMON RESPECT AND LOVE FOR EACH OTHER, I GUESS.

>> BOTH OF OUR LIVES ARE PLAYED OUT. THE FIRST WAS TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN, WE KEEP SAYING THAT.

>> GET USED TO THAT.

>> IT WAS JUST WATCHING OUR LIVES AND GOING, WOW. THE FIRST TIME WE WATCHED IT, IT WAS LIKE A THERAPY SESSION. IT SORT OF FELT LIKE QUERY STILL WORKING THROUGH IT. THE LAST TIME WE WATCHED IT WAS AT THE NASHVILLE FILM FESTIVAL. WE LOCKED ARMS. THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME SINCE THEN. WE STILL CRIED.

>> THAT WAS MORE HEALING FOR ME, HONESTLY.

>> WE'VE MADE IT.

>> YEAH.

>> WE'VE MADE IT THROUGH.

>> GREAT POINT, JENNEA. MAYBE THAT'S A GREAT WAY OF PUTTING IT. IT WAS THERAPEUTIC BUT WATCHING IT WAS HEALING.

>> AMAZING VIDEOS AND PICTURES OF YOU BACK STAGE. THE JOY ON YOUR FACE IS SO UNDENIABLE. IT'S REALLY BEAUTIFUL. WHAT WAS THE MOST UNEXPECTED CHALLENGE, THOUGH, OF BECOMING A PARENT FOR YOU PERSONALLY?

>> HOW LONG YOU GOT.

>> TOP OF MIND, RIGHT? I'M NOT A PARENT BUT THERE ARE THINGS YOU ANTICIPATE GOING INTO THAT JOURNEY. WHAT WAS SOMETHING UNEXPECTED THAT WAS VERY CHALLENGING?

>> RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MARRIAGE. IT'S HARD BECAUSE YOU HAVE DIFFERENT -- THE WAYS THAT YOUR BROUGHT UP, RIGHT. SO YOU TAKE THAT -- WE'VE GOT HARD DRIVES IN OUR SOULS AND BRAINS AND WE'RE WIRED. AND OUR PARENTS, GOD HELP THEM, GOD HELP US, THEY DO THEIR BEST. BUT WE'RE FRAGMENTED HARD DRIVES, YOU KNOW. I THINK THAT, TRYING TO WORK IT OUT WITH HER, TRYING TO BE THE BEST PARENTS WE COULD. BUT STATEMENT WE KEPT FALLING BACK INTO ADDICTION. THAT WAS REALLY HARD. FOR HER, SHE WAS EASY. WHEN YOU THROW MY CAREER INTO IT, BEING GONE. WE DIDN'T HAVE FACE TIME. I COULDN'T LOOK AT MY DAUGHTER, I LOVE YOU, EVERY DAY. I COULDN'T TALK TO HER. SHE WAS A BABY. SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A PHONE WAS. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO COME OFF OF TOUR. I REMEMBER FAMILY VALUES, FOLLOW THE LEADER CAME OUT WITH KORN AND IT BLEW UP EVERY DAY. WE WERE BONA FIDE ROCK STARS, MEGA ROCK STARS. SO I WAS GONE. I WOULD COME BACK HEM AND TRY TO HUG HER AND SHE JUST RAN TO MOM. SHE WAS LIKE, WHO ARE YOU? THAT BROKE MY HEART. SO A LOT OF THAT WAS VERY HARD. THE DIAPERS AND TAKING HER TO THE PARK AND DANCE CLASS, THAT WAS GREAT. SHE WAS A PERFECT LIKE LITTLE ANGEL KID. SHE WAS JUST THE SWEETEST THING EVER.

>> THAT WAS, OF COURSE, DAD'S MEMORIES. JENNEA, YOU HAD QUITE THE CHILDHOOD HE. THERE'S REMARKABLE VIDEOS IN THE FILM. YOU'RE A TODDLER. YOU'RE BACK STAGE WITH KORN, THERE'S AN EXPLANATION WHY YOU HAD TO GO ON TOUR WITH DAD. WHAT ARE YOUR MEMORIES OF GOING ON TOUR WITH ONE OF THE BIGGEST ROCK ACTS IN THE WORLD. AT THE TIME I CAN'T IMAGINE -- WE SEE THE VIDEOS BUT YOU PERSONALLY, WHAT ARE THE GLARING MEMORIES FOR YOU AT THE TIME?

>> I THINK A LOT OF THEM ARE BITTERSWEET. A LOT OF THE TIMES IT FELT LIKE A PLAYGROUND EVERY DAY. THEY TOOK ME EVERYWHERE. I HAVE THIS MEMORY OF WE WERE SOMEWHERE IN EUROPE AND THERE WAS THIS GIANT PLAYGROUND, LIKE HUNDREDS OF KIDS. IT WAS AMAZING. IT STUCK WITH ME FOREVER. SO THERE WAS A LOT OF THOSE MEMORIES, EVEN BEING AT SHOWS, IT FELT LIKE A GIANT PLAYGROUND. I DON'T KNOW. I THINK THERE WAS A LOT OF DARK, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE. I THINK WHEN YOU'RE A KID, THIS MAY SOUND WEIRD BUT YOU'RE A LITTLE MORE SPIRITUALLY SENSITIVE. I FELT LIKE SOME PEOPLE, EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T LOOK LIKE HIM -- THIS IS MY DAD, HE LOOKS NORMAL TO ME. PEOPLE FELT DARK SOMETIMES AND DEPRESSED OR ANGRY. THAT WOULD SCARE ME. OR I WOULD SEE WOMEN. I DON'T KNOW, PARTIES AND STUFF.

>> TO THAT, YOU HEARD ON THE TRAILER WHEN SHE SAID, THERE'S NAKED CHICKS WALKING. I'M LIKE WHERE? THAT WAS -- WOULDN'T THAT BE MY LUCK, MY KID IS ON TOUR. THERE WASN'T NAKED CHICKS WALKING AROUND ALL THE TIME. IF THERE WAS SOMETHING GOING ON ON THE BUS WITH ONE OF THE GUYS. IT WAS A THING WHERE IF THE KIDS WERE AROUND, THERE WAS EVEN RESPECT BACK THEN. SO I'M LIKE HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN.

>> BUT IT HAPPENS.

>> BUT THERE WAS A LOT OF PARTYING GOING ON. SO THEY MIGHT HAVE TRANSFERRED FROM ONE BUS TO THE NEXT OR FROM THE DRESSING ROOM TO THE BUS OR SOMETHING. OH, GOD HELP US, THOUGH. BUT EVERYTHING WORKED OUT. THAT'S ROCK AND ROLL FOR YOU. WE'RE ALL MATURE NOW, AND IT'S DIFFERENT.

>> IT MADE ME WHO I AM.

>> YEAH, FOR SURE.

>> YEAH.

>> I'VE GOT TO ASK YOU, JENNEA, BECAUSE I THINK WE ALL STRUGGLE WITH THIS. FORGIVENESS. FORGIVENESS OF FRIENDS, FAMILY. WHEN WE'RE KIDS, WE CAN ALL REMEMBER, OUR PARENTS ARE SUPERHEROES. SUPERHEROES AREN'T ALLOWED TO MAKE MISTAKES. THEY ARE HELD TO THIS UNBELIEVABLE STANDARD. LIKE YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT, BRIAN, YOU'RE STILL WHO YOU ARE BUT YOU HAVE A CHILD. YOU'RE STILL THE PERSON, STILL HAVE THE HARDWARE. JENNEA, HOW DID YOU FIND IT IN YOUR SELF TO FORGIVE YOUR DAD. THAT'S A BIG THING IN THE MOVIE. HOW DID YOU RECONCILE THAT WITH YOUR SELF?

>> I THINK IT TOOK A LOT OF MATURITY, LIKE GROWING -- I THINK WHEN YOU'RE A KID YOU'RE A LITTLE MORE SELF-CENTERED. ESPECIALLY AN ONLY KID. SO I THINK THROUGH THERAPY AND COUNSELING AND BEING ABLE TO LEARN COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND LIFE SKILLS, I GUESS, I WAS ABLE TO REALIZE THAT HE DID THE BEST HE COULD FOR ME. AND TO THE BEST OF HIS CAPABILITIES, AND HE DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB. HE DID A REALLY GOOD JOB.

>> IT'S A MIRACLE SHE'S SAYING THAT RIGHT NOW. IN MY MIND I MADE SO MANY MISTAKES.

>> NO. THERE'S SO MANY PEOPLE WHO JUST DON'T CARE, AND HE CARED SO MUCH. SO I WAS ABLE TO REALIZE THAT. HE CARED SO MUCH FOR ME. HE DID SO MUCH FOR ME. I THINK THOSE MISTAKES, YOU KNOW, LIKE EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES.

>> THAT'S ONE THING I FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF WITH THAT. I DID LOVE HER. I GENUINELY LOVED THE KID IN MY HEART ALWAYS. SO EVEN THROUGH MY ANGER OUTBURSTS AND ANGER PROBLEMS, I FEEL BAD. I HAD UNCONTROLLABLE ANGER. SO I WOULD BLOW UP AND GO LIKE SOMEWHERE ALONE AND FEEL GUILT AND SHAME.

>> YOU WOULD ALWAYS MAKE IT UP SOMEHOW, WHETHER CHUCK E. CHEESE OR GETTING A HAMSTER.

>> THAT WAS PART OF LIFE.

>> THOSE ARE THINGS --

>> LOOK, I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT. I'M JUST JOKING.

>> ON THE TOPIC OF PARENTS, YOUR PARENTS ARE ALSO IN THE FILM, BRIAN?

>> AREN'T THEY AWESOME.

>> THEY ARE GREAT.

>> THIS CRAZY LOOKING ROCKER DUDE AND THEN NORMAL PEOPLE. WELL, HE WAS JUST A NORMAL BOY.

>> SOME OF THESE OLD PHOTOS ARE HILARIOUS, PRE-KORN, PRE THE LOOK.

>> '80s HAIR METAL. THAT WAS ALL WE HAD. MY DAD, HE USED TO GET ON ME, CUT YOUR HAIR, STUFF LIKE THAT. WHEN WE MADE IT IN KORN, HE WAS LIKE, BOY, WHAT WAS I WRONG. I SHOULD HAVE SAID, DO WHAT YOU WANT. HE DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GOING TO WORK OUT. THEY DID THE BEST THEY COULD. THEY ARE STILL TOGETHER. MY DAD IS 80. BROKE HIS FEMUR BONE ON THANKSGIVING MAKING THANKSGIVING DINNER.

>> THIS THANKSGIVING? GET WELL SOON, DAD, IF YOU'RE WATCHING. OR GRANDPA, IF YOU'RE WATCHING. I WANT TO ASK ABOUT YOUR PARENTS. YOU HAVE AN AMAZING RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. THERE WAS AN ELEMENT TO WHEN YOU WERE COUNTING SUCCESS IN KORN. THEY NEVER REALLY GOT IT. THEY WERE HAPPY FOR THEIR SON BEING SUCCESSFUL BUT DEFINITELY WASN'T THEIR KIND OF MUSIC. IT FEELS LIKE THEY DIDN'T REALLY GRASP WHAT KORN WAS ALL ABOUT. DID THAT EVER BOTHER YOU AS AN ARTIST? IS IT JUST THEY WERE HAPPY? WAS THAT ENOUGH?

>> THAT WAS ENOUGH. I REMEMBER THE SECOND RECORD, JONATHAN WROTE A SONG. HE THOUGHT ABOUT EVERY CUSS WORD THAT'S IN THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE, AND HE WROTE THAT SONG. MY MOM LISTENED TO IT. SHE'S LIKE, WHY IS HE SAYING THOSE WORDS. I'M LIKE, MOM, I'M JUST PLAYING GUITAR. I'M 25 YEARS OLD. SHE'S LIKE, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT. THEY NEVER REALLY LOVED THE BAND BUT THEY WERE PROUD OF US. AS WE EVOLVED, THEY OBVIOUSLY WATCHED THE SUCCESS AND THE CLIMB. I REMEMBER THE FIRST VIDEO THEY PLAYED ON HEAVY ROTATION. THEY PUT US IN BODY BAGS, ZIPPED US UP. HE'S ON THE TREADMILL, ON MTV AND HE'S LIKE, I DON'T LIKE THAT VIDEO. THEY ARE AWESOME. THEY KNOW WE'RE A LITTLE ON THE WILD SIDE, SO THAT'S GOOD.

>> DOES DAD HAVE A FAVORITE CON VIDEO OF ALL TIME.

>> THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. I WISH WE COULD CALL HIM. NO.

>> GOT THE LIFE.

>> JENNEA, YOUR MOTHER ALSO IS IN THE FILM. THERE'S FOOTAGE, YOU SEE YOUR MOM -- I DON'T KNOW HOW OLD YOU ARE, YOU COULD TELL US. YOU SEE YOUR MOM THE FIRST TIME IN FIVE YEARS. YOU WERE COUNTED, THOUGH, IN PRESENT DAY WITH A BIT OF APATHY, KIND OF INDIFFERENT. YOU KNOW, I EXPECTED HER TO LOOK ONE WAY, SHE LOOKED ANOTHER WAY AND THAT WAS THAT. TAKE ME BACK TO THAT DAY AND YOUR FEELINGS AND ALSO YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT YOUR MOM TODAY.

>> WELL, I WAS FIVE YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. SO WHEN WE SAW HER AFTER -- I GUESS I WAS SIX. I GUESS IT HAD BEEN A COUPLE OF YEARS. I DON'T KNOW. I SAID IT IN THE MOVIE THAT I JUST EXPECTED HER TO BE SOME BLONDE HAIRED LADY WITH A SKIRT. I DON'T KNOW. LIKE YOU SEE IN MOVIES, I GUESS. AND SHE HAD TATTOOS AND WAS WEARING LIKE A MINI SKIRT. BUT I WAS OKAY WITH IT. IT WAS JUST DIFFERENT THAN WHAT I EXPECTED IN MY LITTLE MIND. I DON'T KNOW. I GUESS PEOPLE ARE CAPABLE OF THINGS, ME, HIM, EVERYBODY. SO TODAY WE'RE JUST KIND OF LIKE -- WE'RE JUST CHILLING. I HAVE AMAZING WOMEN IN MY LIFE THAT TAKE CARE OF ME AND HELP ME AND THEY ARE SUPPORTIVE. WE'RE JUST DOING OUR THING, YOU KNOW.

>> TAKING IT SLOW.

>> TAKING IT SLOW.

>> SHE'S WORKED ON HERSELF. SHE'S INCREDIBLE.

>> SHE'S WORKED ON HERSELF, AND SHE'S DOING GOOD HOPEFULLY. WE WISH THE BEST FOR HER. IT'S ALL POSITIVE, SO POSITIVE.

>> I'VE GOT TO ASK, THIS FILM, DECEMBER 14th, IS THAT THE DATE AVAILABLE ON SHOWTIME?

>> PREMIERING THEN AND THEN PLAYING THROUGHOUT THE MONTH AND THROUGHOUT THE NEXT YEAR.

>> IT'S REALLY INCREDIBLE. I'M NOT SAYING THAT BECAUSE YOU'RE HERE. IT'S SO GOOD, I'M CURIOUS, WOULD YOU DO A SHOW? WOULD YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS EPISODICALLY, MAYBE STREAMING.

>> RELIVE ALL THAT STUFF ON THE STAGE?

>> NO, LIKE A REALITY SHOW.

>> REALITY SHOW? WE TALKED ABOUT THAT ACTUALLY.

>> WE ALMOST DID WHEN I WAS 14 BUT I WAS GOING THROUGH SO MUCH.

>> AN OFFER IN 2007.

>> THROUGH SIGNS OF NOT TO DO IT, NOT WORKING OUT.

>> I TOTALLY LIVE BY IF IT'S MEANT TO BE IT WILL HAPPEN. YOU CAN ONLY PUSH SO FAR, POUND THE DOORS. IF THEY DON'T OPEN, YOU HAVE TO STEP BACK AND SAY IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE.

>> TOTALLY. IF WE COULD DIVE IN THE CORNER A LITTLE BIT RIGHT NOW, I WOULD LOVE TO. I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT.

>> BROKE UP. I HATE TO TELL YOU -- JUST JOKING.

>> I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO PAY RESPECT TO ARTISTS LIKE KORN OR ANY GENRE THAT CAME BEFORE TODAY'S ARTIST, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S EASY TO THINK EVERYTHING IS BRAND-NEW AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE. I THINK KORN DOESN'T GET THE PROPER RESPECT FOR BEING THE INTERNET PIONEERS YOU WERE. SOCIAL MEDIA IS ALL THE RAGE RIGHT NOW. YOU GUYS MIGHT NOT EVEN KNOW THIS, BUT BACK IN '98, BEFORE FOLLOW THE LEADER, YOU WERE DOING KORN TV WEBCASTS ONCE A WEEK. I DON'T KNOW HOW FREQUENT IT WAS.

>> KORN TV. WE HAD GUESTS. THAT WAS UNHEARD OF. ALSO IN 1996 WE DID THE FIRST INTERNET SHOW. '96 I'M TALKING ABOUT. IT WAS LIKE DIALUP. ONLY A FEW PEOPLE COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IN. LIVE IN THE STUDIO WITH ROSS ROBINSON. WE HAD GUESTS IN THERE, TOO. TWO WEEKS LATER FOR FOLLOW THE LEADER. WE HAD FRIENDS ON THE SHOW. CHEECH FROM CHEECH AND CHONG, DEAF TONES, LITTLE BISCUIT, ICE CUBE, MAYBE SNOOP, I FORGET. OUR MANAGERS WERE REALLY HOT AT THAT TIME AND WE WERE CLICKING BACK THEN. WE DO THAT NOW, BE AHEAD AND THINK OF NEW THINGS. YOU GUYS, THE YOUNGER GENERATION ARE COMING IN DOING THINGS. WE ALL HAVE OUR TIME ON THE PLANET. SO WE MADE OUR MARK.

>> YEAH.

>> STILL MAKING IT. YEAH, THANKS FOR BRINGING THAT UP. A LOT OF PEOPLE FORGET ABOUT THAT. BUT WE WERE REALLY AHEAD OF THE --

>> WHO WAS BRINGING THAT TO THE TABLE. IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED OR PUT INTO CONTEXT. THE INTERNET IN '96, '98 IS NOT -- THE GENERAL POPULATION IS NOT SOLD ON IT YET. YEAH, SEE IF THIS LASTS. AGAIN, WE'RE TALKING DIALUP, NOT THAT ACCESSIBLE. NOTHING THAT COOL IS HAPPENING ONLINE, THE GENERAL POPULATION, THE MASSES. WHO IN THE BAND, IN MANAGEMENT IS SAYING YOU GUYS SHOULD CHAMPION THIS NEW FORM OF COMMUNICATION.

>> 100% IT WAS JEFF, PETER WITH THE FIRM AND JONATHAN. THE REST OF US WERE LIKE -- I PICTURED A BUNCH OF BILL GATES PEOPLE. THOSE AREN'T KORN FANS. GIVE US A BEER. LET'S PARTY. HE'S LIKE, NO, THIS IS THE THING. OUR SINGER HAS DONE A LOT OF GREAT THINGS FOR KORN AND THAT WAS ONE OF THEM.

>> IN ADDITION TO THE MUSIC, OF COURSE, THE REAL UNSUNG HERO OF BEING ABLE TO COMPETE WITH BRITNEY PANNED 'N SYNC WAS MOBILIZING FAN BASE THROUGH E-MAIL LISTS, TELLING PEOPLE TO VOTE ON THESE SHOWS. IT'S FASCINATING. THERE'S A DEEP DIVE WAITING TO HAPPEN THERE. SOME PUBLICATION WILL DO IT.

>> AND DOING A LOT OF THINGS WITH FANS LIKE A CONTEST, A HUGE ALBUM CONTEST. WE GOT THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS --

>> FAN ISSUES -- NOT TO STEAL YOUR STORY.

>> GO FOR IT. PLEASE.

>> HE WAS IN KORN. YOU GUYS LET A FAN DESIGN ARGUABLY THE MOST ANTICIPATED ALBUM OF YOUR CAREER, RIGHT? COMING OFF FOLLOW THE LEADER, YOU'RE ON TOP OF THE WORLD. ISSUES DROPPING THAT FALL. YOU'RE LIKE, YOU GUYS MAKE THE ARTWORK. THAT WAS ONE OF THE RADDEST THINGS EVER.

>> WE MADE DOLLS OUT OF THAT. WE DID FIVE. NO, THERE WAS THREE WINSERS, MAYBE FIVE -- THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO. DON'T DO DRUGS, KIDS. THREE WINNERS AND A DOLL, BEAT UP KORN DOLL. WE MADE A DOLL LIKE THE ONE HE DREW. THAT FLEW IN THE ARENA.

>> I REMEMBER. I WAS A LITTLE KID.

>> DID THAT SCARE YOU?

>> YEAH.

>> THEY MAKE DOLLS THIS BIG, LIKE TOY DOLLS.

>> THE DOLL WOULD FLY IN THE ARENA?

>> IT WOULD FLY OVER THE CROWD.

>> THAT'S WHERE DRAKE GOT HIS YELLOW LAMBORGHINI FROM.

>> THEY ALL STOLE IT ULTIMATELY. US AND MOTLEY CRUE. TRAVIS AND TOMMY LEE, HE'S MAD, IT'S A ROLLER COASTER THING.

>> DUDE, YOU'VE GOT TO ASK YOU. I WORK AT THE ALTERNATIVE RADIO STATION IN NEW YORK CITY. WE'RE HUGE -- ME AND A COUPLE OF OTHER JOCKS ARE MASSIVE KORN FANS.

>> REALLY?

>> HUGE KORN FANS. WE HAD HOLIDAY SHOW AT BARCLAYS. WE WERE TALKING BACK STAGE. ONE OF THE JOCKS USED TO INTERVIEW YOU BACK IN THE DAYS. WE WERE TALKING ABOUT KORN. WE WERE LIKE, HUGE TRAVIS SCOTT FANS. I SEE SO MUCH KORN INFLUENCE WITH TRAVIS SCOTT. CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS?

>> LET JENNEA GO.

>> I GET SO PASSIONATE ABOUT IT. ALL THE MAINSTREAM HIP-HOP, LIKE CORN, LIMP BISCUIT, ALL OF THOSE, THERE'S SUCH A RESURGENCE IN HIP-HOP TODAY, EVEN WITH UNDERGROUND SOUND CLOUD, IT'S SO INSPIRED, SO FUN. I LOVE IT.

>> DUDE, DO YOU EVER HEAR JUICE WRLD, UP AND COMING RAPPER. I'M NOT BRAGGING BUT I WAS AT HIS FIRST SHOW IN JERSEY A YEAR AGO.

>> WOW.

>> THIS IS LIKE STAR LINE BALLROOM. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU PLAYED IT BACK IN THE DAY. A SMALL VENUE IN JERSEY. KIDS ARE THERE AND THEY ARE IN KORN SHIRTS.

>> SHUT UP.

>> YES, YOUNG KIDS IN KORN SHIRTS RAGING TO JUICE WRLD.

>> HE'S ALWAYS LIKE KORN IS OLD.

>> WE'LL SEE TRAVIS'S DESIGNS. WE'RE LIKE, DUDE, THAT'S LIKE FOLLOW THE LEADER.

>> THE NEW ROCK --

>> WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME ABOUT HERE BUT WE CAN TALK BACK STAGE ABOUT KORN VERSUS HIP-HOP. DID AN AMAZING SHOW WITH RICKY. I FORGOT WHAT HE ASKED HIM. BUT THE ENERGY PUMPKINS AND ALTERNATIVE ACTS OF THE '90s HAD THEN, HE SEES ARTISTS LIKE LITTLE PEOPLE AND RAPPERS WE'RE REFERENCING NOW. I DON'T KNOW HOW UP ON HIP-HOP YOU ARE BUT WHERE DO YOU SEE KORN ENERGY.

>> I SAID I KEEP HIM UPDATED.

>> WHERE DO YOU PERSONALLY SEE THAT ENERGY? DO YOU SEE IT ANYWHERE? WE'RE PLAYING KORN RECORDS HERE IN THE STUDIO. THEY JUST GO, MAN. THERE'S AN ENERGY.

>> WE WROTE THE SONGS WITH THE LIVE SHOW IN MIND. SO DID THE RAGE AGAINST MACHINES AND BISCUITS. IT WAS LIKE THAT'S WHAT MATTERED, THE LIVE SHOW. IT'S CRAZY TO SEE THIS HIP-HOP DOING THAT. WE PLAYED WITH -- CHECK THIS LINEUP OUT. WE PLAYED WITH AMIGOS, MAJOR DRIVER, AT THE DRIVE-IN. I WISH WE COULD.

>> AMAZING.

>> THE CROWD WENT OFF FOR AMIGOS AS MUCH AS THEY DID FOR US. EMINEM HAD THE CRAZY CROWD. YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING. THEY WERE JUMPING AND HOPPING. I WAS WATCHING TRAVIS SCOTT VIDEOS ONLY AND THE CROWD JUST GOES NUTS, MAN. SO THERE'S A LOT OF ENERGY THERE. I DON'T KNOW. WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, I DON'T PICTURE HOW ARE THEY GETTING SO CRAZY WITH THIS.

>> TRAVIS SCOTT, EVERYBODY. WITH OUR MUSIC. THERE'S ANOTHER BAND CALLED FEVER 333. HAVE YOU HEARD OF THEM.

>> YES.

>> YOU'VE GOT TO CHECK THEM OUT. EVERYONE IS BRINGING THEM ON TOUR. THEY ARE GOING TO BLOW UP SO SHOUT OUT TO YOU GUYS.

>> BE FAIR, YOU DID INFLUENCE -- YOU HAD HIP-HOP -- I WAS LISTENING TO TRASH AND JONATHAN IS KIND OF RAPPING ON THAT.

>> HE PLAYED THE DRUMS IN THAT SONG.

>> DID HE REALLY?

>> YOU FEEL THE HIP-HOP BEAT.

>> YOU GUYS WERE SUPER EARLY.

>> SPEAKING OF DRUMS. I KNOW WE'RE GOING WAY LONG RIGHT NOW. BUT I HEARD THAT THE DRUMS ARE DONE FOR THE NEW KORN RECORD. DOUBT AN E.T.A. ON THAT?

>> DRUMS ARE DONE FOR THE SONGS WRITTEN. I BET WE'LL DO MORE. THE PRODUCER DOES THAT. I DON'T THINK WE HAVE ENOUGH. THE DRUMS ARE DONE. WE'RE WORKING ON GUITARS. I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH WE HAVE LEFT. THE BASS IS FAR FROM DONE. VOCALS WE'VE BEEN ON A LITTLE BIT. BUT WE HAVE SOME SURPRISES COMING ON THIS RECORD THAT WE'RE STOKED. I CAN'T SAY NOTHING, MAN. I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU A HINT. BUT SOME COOL, FUN SURPRISES THAT I GUARANTEE EVERYONE WILL LOVE.

>> WOULD YOU EVER COLLAB WITH TRAVIS?

>> YEAH, 100%. TRAVIS SCOTT, HIT US UP.

>> THAT WOULD BE SO SICK.

>> WHO ELSE.

>> SKI MASK THE SUMP GOD. I'LL MAKE A LIST.

>> WE DID THAT BACK IN THE DAY. WE NEED TO DO THAT.

>> LET'S TURN IT OVER TO THE AUDIENCE. THE FIRST QUESTION WILL COME FROM OVER HERE.

>> HI.

>> SORRY I'M A LITTLE SICK. MY QUESTION IS FOR YOU. I THINK WE'RE AROUND THE SAME AGE. I'VE GONE THROUGH MY OWN ISSUES OF MENTAL HEALTH AND STUFF. SOMETHING I'M REALLY FASCINATED BY IS LOOKING AT YOUR PARENTS AS PEOPLE, AS YOU GET OLDER, AND KIND OF SEEING THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE. I WAS WONDERING WHAT LESSONS YOUR DAD HAS TAUGHT YOU THAT YOU WOULD PASS ONTO YOUR OWN KIDS. I KNOW THAT SOMETIMES WHEN YOU'RE YOUNGER AND YOU'RE GOING THROUGH THINGS, YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING. NOW THAT YOU'RE OLDER, AT LEAST FOR ME, THAT WAS PRETTY VALUABLE INFORMATION I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO LISTEN TO AT THE TIME.

>> YES. BY THE WAY, YOU'RE SO CUTE, YOU'RE ADORABLE.

>> YOU, TOO.

>> GREAT QUESTIONS.

>> I THINK THE MOST VALUABLE THING I'VE LEARNED FROM YOU IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. I'VE PUT YOU THROUGH SO MUCH ANNOYANCE AND, I DON'T KNOW -- I DON'T KNOW.

>> LOOK AT MY MISTAKES, MAN. YOU DID, BUT IT WAS ALL BIRTHED FROM PAIN. YOU WERE WOUNDED. I SEE THAT. YEAH, IT WAS HARD.

>> BUT YOU DID A GOOD JOB.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME. ANYWAYS, SO I THINK THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WAS THAT LIKE I PUT HIM THROUGH SO MUCH, AND HE LOVED ME NO MATTER WHAT. HE DID THE BEST FOR ME. SO I THINK IF I HAVE KIDS, I THINK THAT'S SUPER IMPORTANT, BECAUSE IT CAN BE SFO HARD. I DON'T KNOW. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO HAVE KIDS. YOUR LIFE CHANGES. IT'S LIKE A WHOLE OTHER DEAL. SO I THINK -- YEAH, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. THAT'S THE BIGGEST THING I'VE LEARNED.

>> GREAT QUESTION, GREAT ANSWER. LET'S GET TO THE SECOND FAN QUESTION.

>> THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. IT'S AN AMAZING STORY. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FILM. I'VE BEEN A HARD CORE KORN FAN FOR YEARS.

>> THANK YOU, BROTHER.

>> I HAVE TO SAY IT'S TRULY AN HONOR. IT'S SO GREAT TO SEE YOU GUYS IN A HEALTHY PLACE AND BRIAN KICKING SO MUCH ASS WITH KORN. THE ALBUM IS SLAMMING, NEXT ONE ANTICIPATED. TWO QUESTIONS DO YOU THINK WE'LL SEE ANNIVERSARY SHOWS SIMILAR TO FOLLOW THE LEADER SHOWS. IF YOU COULD RELIVE ANY MOMENT FROM BACK IN THE DAY SOBER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

>> AMAZING QUESTION.

>> ISSUES. I THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. I WILL TAKE THAT TO THE MANAGEMENT. WE PLAYED THAT RECORD IN ITS ENTIRETY AT THE APOLO. WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT IT THE OTHER DAY. BUSTER RHYMES CAME IN AND CHRIS ROCK. HOW DO YOU GET THE VIDEOS -- BUSTER DID THAT VIDEO OF THE GIRL GETTING BEATEN BY HER FATHER.

>> FALL AWAY FROM ME.

>> IF THAT WAS A RAP VIDEO, WE WOULD BE BANNED. SO WE PLAYED THAT ALBUM IN ITS ENTIRETY. I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT TO GET OUT ON THE ROAD AND DO THAT. AT LEAST FOR A FEW FESTIVALS. A MOMENT I WISH I WOULD HAVE BEEN SOBER. PROBABLY 1998.

>> THAT WHOLE MOMENT. HONESTLY 2003-2004, I WAS ON METH FOR TWO YEARS. IT WAS A BLUR. THAT WAS MY GUTTER. I WAS THINKING ABOUT SUICIDE AND EVERYTHING. SO JUST THOSE TWO YEARS, YOU KNOW. BUT WOODSTOCK MAYBE. THAT'S ANOTHER ONE I WISH I WOULD HAVE BEEN SOBER. REALLY A LOT OF THOSE TIMES. WE JUST HAVE FRAGMENTED MEMORIES. WHAT A WASTE, RIGHT?

>> REALLY QUICK. SPEAKING OF '98, JUST IN YOUR RECOLLECTION, WHEN DID KORN BREAK TRULY BIG? WAS IT GOT THE LIFE OR FREAK ON A LEASH?

>> GOT THE LIFE.

>> THAT'S WHEN THINGS CHANGED?

>> THEY COME UP WITH THE TRO RULE, IF YOU'RE ON SO LONG ON THE COUNTDOWN THAT YOU HAVE TO BE RETIRED BECAUSE THERE'S OTHER MUSIC COMING. OURS WAS THE FIRST ONE. OUR FANS KEPT VOTING. THEY HAVE ANOTHER SINGLE COMING OUT. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? LET MAKE UP A RETIREMENT RULE. SO THAT'S PRETTY FLATTERING, RIGHT?

>> ALSO SOME TRL HISTORY. YOU GUYS WERE THE FIRST NONBOY BAND TO BE NUMBER ONE.

>> REALLY?

>> BACK STREET AND 'N SYNC.

>> WE'RE FIVE BOYS.

>> IS KORN A BOY BAND?

>> NO. THAT'S AN HONOR, TOO. BANDS LIKE US, ALL THEM AGAINST THE POP.

>> IT'S LIKE A HIGH SCHOOL.

>> HOW COOL IT BLENDS -- YES. THAT'S A GOOD, GOOD ANALOGY. IT WAS EVERYTHING MIXED TOGETHER. JONATHAN DID AN INTERVIEW NOT TOO LONG AGO WHERE HE SAID IT'S NOT GOING TO BE LIKE THAT BECAUSE OF THE INTERNET. THAT WAS A SPECIAL TIME.

>> WE HAVE TIME FOR ONE FINAL QUESTION AND IT'S GOING TO COME FROM OVER HERE.

>> HI, GUYS. THANKS FOR BEING HERE AND SHARING YOUR STORY. THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS TO IMPACT IN THE STORY, FAME, ADDICTION, PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS. IS THERE A CORE MESSAGE YOU WANT VIEWERS TO TAKE AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE?

>> OH, MY GOSH.

>> WHAT ARE YOUR THREE POINTS?

>> OKAY. SO THOSE ARE ALL GOOD. THAT'S WHAT I ALWAYS SAY. I ALWAYS SAY IT'S WOMEN EMPOWERMENT, TEEN SUICIDE/DEPRESSION, THOSE ARE REALLY PROMINENT, AND FATHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIPS, FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS.

>> I WANT PEOPLE TO TAKE AWAY THAT, LOOK, WE ARE LIVING PROOF -- I WAS A CRAZY, WILD, DRUG ADDICTED ROCK STAR. I'M IN A GREAT, HAPPY PLACE NOW. IF YOU DON'T GIVE UP, AND YOU KEEP WORKING AT IT. FIND COUNSELING AND GET THERAPY. JUST FORGIVENESS FOR YOUR SELF, TOO.

>> YEAH.

>> YOU CAN GET ON THE OTHER SIDE. WE'RE SITTING HERE LIVING PROOF. I WAS A METH ADDICT, AND I'M DOING SO GOOD RIGHT NOW. WE'RE BOTH DOING SO GOOD. THAT'S THE MAIN MESSAGE. DON'T GIVE UP, PEOPLE.

>> ALSO, I FEEL LIKE SO MANY KIDS, ESPECIALLY OUR AGE, THEY -- LIKE LIFE FEELS KIND OF NUMB, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, WITH SOCIAL MEDIA, WE'RE SO DISCONNECTED. I FEEL LIKE IF WE -- THERE'S SO MUCH BEAUTY AND SO MUCH ATTACHMENT TO THIS WORLD THAT IT'S SO WORTH LIVING. SO I HOPE THAT PEOPLE GET THAT THROUGH THE FILM IS THAT THERE'S SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR. SO MUCH BEAUTY. LIKE YOU SAID.

>> THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION. AS YOU GUYS SAID, VERY IMPORTANT FILM. IT PREMIERS ON SHOWTIME DECEMBER 14th. BRIAN, PLEASE COME BACK NEXT YEAR WITH THE GUYS.

>> WE LOVE IT. WE LOVE COMING HERE. YOU KNOW THAT. FOR ALL THE INFORMATION. "LOUD KRAZY LOVE," KRAZY WITH A K IF YOU WANT INFORMATION.

>> BRIAN.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH, MAN.
