Peter Morén & Bjorn Yttling Of Peter Bjorn & John Talk Their 8th Album, "Darker Days"

Earlier this fall, Peter Bjorn and John returned with their eighth full-length studio album, "Darker Days." Written almost immediately after the release of 2016’s "Breakin’ Point," the band decided to strip away the noise and take it back to a simpler time where it was just the three of them, playing music together and releasing albums every other year. The 11 songs on "Darker Days" reflect this move, showcasing each member’s unique songwriting style while sounding resolutely like a band that has played together for nearly 20 years.

>>> PLEASE WELCOME PETE BJORN OF PETE KBRRN AND JOHN.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANKS FOR COMING ON BUILD WELCOME.

>> THANKS.

>> WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE YOU HERE, A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE ALBUM RELEASE. HOW ARE YOU FEELING NOW IT'S OUT IN THE WORLD.

>> I FEEL LIKE, THIS.

>> A LITTLE RELIEF.

>> YEAH, YEAH IT'S FUN.

>> YEAH, I MEAN THIS HAS BEEN A LITTLE BIT IN THE MAKING. I KNOW YOU KIND OF TOOK A MORE SIMPLER APPROACH IS HOW YOU DESCRIBE IT THIS TIME. WHY SO FOR THIS ALBUM?

>> I THINK TO MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT AND LESS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NOT POSSIBLE. IT WAS FIVE YEARS IN THE MAKING.

>> AND SIX PRODUCERS.

>> SIX PRODUCERS AT AT LEAST. AND WHAT ELSE? EVERY INSTRUMENT IN SWEDEN.

>> AND THE WORLD.

>> AND THE WORLD.

>> IN THE WORLD.

>> YEAH WE WENT BACK HOW WE USED TO DO IT BASICALLY WHICH PRODUCE OURSELVES, YEAH, THAT'S JUST FREE PRODUCERS.

>> YEAH, HALF.

>> HOW DOES THAT WORK WITH THAT? BECAUSE I KNOW WITH THIS ALWUM YOU SQUIRRELLED AWAY AND WROTE YOUR OWN SONGS AND CAME TOGETHER. AND DECIDED THESE ARE THE ONES WE RECORD, RIGHT?

>> WE STARTED WITH A TITLE, DARKER DAYS. AND THEN WE KIND OF SAW WHAT WE HAD IN THE THE DRAWERS, SAMPLE OF OLD SONGS AND WROTE NEW SONGS TO GO WITH THE TITLE. SO SONGS THAT WOULD FIT THE THEME SO TO SPEAK.

>> WE EVEN HAD THE COVER ACTUALLY.

>> YEAH.

>> WE STARTED WITH THE COVER, YEAH.

>> IT SOUNDS LIKE -- A LOT OF TIMES THAT COMES AFTER. WE HAVE THE ALBUM, NOW THE TITLE AND ARTWORK. WHAT WAS IT ABOUT DARKER DAYS THAT REALLY INSPIRED YOU? BECAUSE IT'S A DARKER -- ARE WE IN DARKER DAYS RIGHT NOW?

>> YES. IT'S GETTING DARKER, SURE.

>> YES.

>> BUT, NO WE HAD A SONG CALLED DARKER DAYS. AND WE WORKED ON IT FOR THE LAST ALBUM BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT. BUT WE LIKED THE TITLE OF IT. AND IT SORT OF FLEW AROUND WHEN WE DECIDED TITLES FOR THIS. IT FELT LIKE EVERYBODY WAS IN ON THAT IDEA.

>> WHAT ABOUT THE ARTWORK FOR IN IN TERMS OF -- YOU SAID THAT CAME OUT EARLY? WHO WAS BEHIND THAT?

>> IT WAS ACTUALLY SHALL WE SAY THIS? SAY IT OUT LOUD OR IS IT THE SECRET? IT WAS A LEFTOVER ARTWORK FOR BREAKING POINT.

>> OH, OKAY.

>> MAYBE IT'S EVEN BETTER ACTUALLY. BUT IT DIDN'T FIT THAT RECORD.

>> OKAY.

>> SO THE DESIGNER MADE A COUPLE OF OPTIONS.

>> IT'S THE SAME GUY THAT MADE GIVE ME SOME AND BREAKING POINT. SO WE IT HAD IT. WE LIKED IT A LOT. SO IT'S SORT OF US, I DON'T KNOW, FORMING A WHOLE BY, I DON'T KNOW, BREAKING UP OUR BONES.

>> YEAH, AND IT SORT OF FIT THE SONGS AND IN RECORD BETTER, YEAH.

>> WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT DARKER DAYS, FOR YOU WHAT DOES THAT, DARKER DAYS, MEAN TO YOU.

>> IT CAN MEAN A TON OF DIFFERENT THINGS AND IT MEANS A TON OF DIFFERENT THINGS ON THIS RECORD. WE STARTED ABOUT THINKING ABOUT THE DARKER DAYS OF THE SWEDISH -- THE LONG SWEDISH WINTERS. AND THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A NEGATIVE THING. IT CAN BE SORT OF AN INSPIRING CREATIVITY MELON KOHLIC SPACE. BUT THEN WE INCORPORATED MID-LIFE CRISIS MAYBE AND REPLACE TROUBLE BUT ALSO THE DARKER STATE OF THE WORLD. SO THERE IS A COUPLE OF SLIGHTLY POLITICAL THINGS AS WELL.

>> IN SWEDEN WE ALWAYS THINK ABOUT WHEN IT'S GOING TO GET DARKER. SO WE HAVE A SHORT SUMMER. AND YOU FEEL LIKE WELL IT'S SUNNY TODAY, YOU KNOW, BUT SOON IT'S GETTING DARKER.

>> YEAH.

>> AND THEN WE CAN GO INSIDE AGAIN.

>> IT'S ALWAYS LOOMING, RIGHT, YOU KNOW IT'S ON THE --

>> YES YOU KNOW THIS IS JUST TWO DAYS OF SUMMER AND THEN GO INSIDE AGAIN.

>> YOU MENTIONED THIS RECORD, YOU WENT BACK TO THE PRODUCING THING RATHER THAN BRINGING IN LOTS OF PRODUCERS. WHAT DID THAT BRING TO THAT ALBUM THAT YOU ARE PROUD OF?

>> I THINK MAYBE JUST SEEING THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY PULL IT OFF YOURSELF AND MAKING A GREAT ALBUM. AND I'M ESPECIALLY PROUD THAT IT HOLDS TOGETHER SO WELL AS AN ALBUM EVEN THOUGH WE KIND OF PRODUCED SEPARATE SONGS. IT REALLY FITS MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS DONE IN THE SAME STUDIO AND WE MORE THAN WE MAYBE THINK HAVE SIMILAR ORAL TASTES SO TO SPEAK. WE KIND OF LIKE THE SAME SOUNDS.

>> IT'S LIKE GETTING A BUNCH OF KIDS AND SAY LIKE YOU GO HAVE THEM PLAY, YOU CAN GO WHEREVER YOU WANT. AND NONJUST SIT AT THE SAME PLACE, RIGHT?

>> YEAH, YEAH.

>> YOU'VE BEEN AT THIS FOR A WHILE. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE STILL GROWING AND LEARNING AS MUSICIANS? AND IF SO HOW.

>> NO.

>> NO, NOT AT ALL.

>> WELL, WE'VE ON IT FOR A WHILE, YES.

>> NO, I MEAN, DEFINITELY. WHAT'S SO NICE NOW IS THAT WE ACTUALLY ALLOWED OURSELVES TO LOOK BACK ON OUR CATALOG AND LEGACY IF YOU CAN SAY SO, AND GET INSPIRED BY OURSELVES RATHER THAN TRYING TO TAKE ALL KINDS OF LEFT TURNS AND LOOK AT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DO. IT'S NICE TO FEEL, YEAH, WHAT ARE WE, YOU KNOW? AND ONE THING YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU'VE DONE MUSIC SO LONG A KIND OF GET NOT TOO PROFESSIONAL AND REMEMBER THE .

>> JUST 20 YEARS IN HERE, DID YOU MAKE THE MISTAKES EARLY ON? WERE THERE MISTAKES OR STUPID THINGS YOU DID EARLY ON THAT YOU'RE LIKE OH, MAN.

>> YEAH.

>> FIRST UP, WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW -- WE KNEW IT WAS TEN SONGS THAP THAT WAS LIKE, THAT'S AN ALBUM, RIGHT. BUT WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN ALBUM. SO WE HAD TO MAKE IT UP AS WE WENT ALONG. AND NOW WE KNOW -- THIS IS THE EIGHTH ALBUM.

>> YEAH.

>> NOW WE KNOW HOW TO MAKE ALBUMS. BUT WE ALSO LIKE THE MISTAKES AND HAPPY ACCIDENTS OR WHATEVER YOU CALL IT, YOU KNOW.

>> SOMETIMES THE BEST THINGS COME FROM THOSE HAPPY ACCIDENTS, RIGHT.

>> YEAH.

>> WERE THERE A LOT OF SONGS THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE RECORD?

>> NOT LOADS. I MEAN, A COUPLE MAYBE, YEAH. BUT -- IT WAS A GOOD, LIKE, TO HAVE A SORT OF DEFINE THE TIME LINE AND JUST PUT UP YOUR OWN DEADLINE. I THINK THAT'S REALLY GOOD FOR JUST FINISHING THINGS. I THINK THAT'S GREAT. EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THAT EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE PUSHING US. IT WAS JUST OURSELVES SO NO, NOT TOO MANY LEFTOVERS THIS TIME.

>> WOULD YOU SAY -- THERE IS A LOT OF GREAT SONGS ON THIS RECORD. WE HAVE LISTENED TO IT IT'S REALLY COOL. IS THERE A RUNG THAT REALLY STANDS OUT TO YOU THAT OKAY THIS DEFINES THE RECORD FOR ME? MAYBE ONE YOU BROUGHT TO THE FOLD?

>> MY PERSONAL FAVORITE OF THE SONGS I WROTE IS PROBABLY LIVING A DREAM. I LOVE THAT ONE. IT'S KIND OF A PERSONAL SONG. BUT ALSO ONE OF JOHN'S CALLED "HEAVEN AND HELL" IS REALLY FANTASTIC I THINK.

>> WHAT ABOUT YOU?

>> I LIKE -- I DON'T KNOW. I LIKE "SICK AND TIRED.”

>> WHY SO.

>> I DON'T KNOW IT'S A BIT DIFFERENT VIBE ON THAT. WE HAVEN'T PLAYED IT LIVE BUT WE TRIED IT YESTERDAY TO SEE WE CAN GOING TO DO IT LATER ON THE TOUR.

>> LIKE A SOUND CHECK.

>> YOU'RE ON TOUR, PLAYING THE BALANCE ROOM HERE IN NEW YORK, THE GREAT YEN VENUE WHAT IS IT LIKE PUTTING TOGETHER A TOUR THESE DAYS VERSUS FIVE OR TEN YEARS AGO? YOU HAVE SO MUCH MUSIC TO CHOOSE FROM.

>> THAT'S GREAT. I LOVE THAT, BECAUSE YOU CAN SORT OF SWAP IT UP AND PEOPLE ARE NOT -- CAN'T BE SURE WHAT WE ARE GOING TO PLAY BECAUSE WE CHANGE THE SET LIST AROUND. AND ALSO LOTS OF DIFFERENT SONGS THAT CAN FEEL THE SAME POSITION IN THE SET. IT'S ABOUT PACING AND PUTTING IT TOGETHER. SO I ENJOY IT MORE THAN EVER ACTUALLY.

>> WHAT ABOUT YOU?

>> IT'S ALL ABOUT REMEMBERING LYRICS I THINK.

>> IS THAT A CHALLENGE FOR YOU SOMETIMES? LIKE, OH MAN, WE HAVEN'T PLAYED IN FIVE YEARS.

>> I GUESS PETER IS SINGING MOST OF IT. HE REMEMBERS MOST OF IT TOO.

>> YOU DON'T HAVE A CHEAT SHEET ON STAGE AT ALL WITH THE LYRICS.

>> TELEPROMPTER.

>> NO. I MEAN THE NEW SONGS ARE THE HARDEST. WE THE HAVEN'T SUNK THEM SO MUCH.

>> YEAH, YEAH. THE -- UT TOUR WILL BE A MIX OF NEW AND OLD.

>> IT'S VERY MIXED UP.

>> THAT'S COOL. HOW MANY YEARS AGO WAS IT YOUNG FOLKS HIT REALLY BIG.

>> 12, 11, 12.

>> 2007 HERE.

>> IT'S BEEN ABOUT TEN YEARS, RIGHT A LITTLE OVER 10 YEARS. I THINK ROLLING STONE NAMED IT THE BEST SONG OF THE CENTURY.

>> GOOD OF THEM. GOOD PICK.

>> DO YOU AGREE WITH THAT?

>> YEAH.

>> DEEPEST SONG, NOT THE DOPEST BUT ONE OF THE BEST.

>> WE HAVE MORE SONGS TOO.

>> I KNOW YOU HAVE MORE SONGS THAN THAT OF COURSE. BUT WAS THAT A SONG YOU KNEW LIKE THIS IS OKAY THE ONE THAT'S GOING TO BREAK US INTO THE MAIN STREAM?

>> NO, WE DIDN'T KNOW AT THAT POINT.

>> AT THAT POINT IT WAS MORE LIKE THIS IS A COOL SONG WE CAN PLAY IT TO THE FRIENDS AND NOT LIKE VOMIT, YOU KNOW, THAT WAS SORT OF THE ACTION. LISTEN TO THIS SONG AND THEY LIKE IT. COOL.

>> YEAH, IT WAS KIND OF DIFFERENT. THAT WAS THE MAIN DIFFERENCE, THAT IT WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER SONGS. AND IT'S STILL KIND OF DIFFERENT, I GUESS, WHICH IS INTERESTING.

>> YEAH. BUT I ALSO THINK IT'S DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WAS GOING ON AT THE TIME, TOO.

>> RIGHT.

>> I THINK THAT'S PART OF THE REASON WHY IT STUCK WITH PEOPLE, RIGHT?

>> RIGHT, YEAH, TOTALLY.

>> WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION THAT -- BEHIND THAT SONG THEN AND WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU PLAY IT NOW.

>> THE INSPIRATION WE DON'T THINK ABOUT SO MUCH. IT WAS MORE AVOIDING SOUNDING LIKE DUKE ELLINGTON.

>> YEAH.

>> IT WAS LIKE THIS IS A RIPOFF OF DUKE ELLINGTON, AND AGE WILLING.

>> ASIAN DUKE HE WILL BE TON.

>> YEAH. SO WE JUST -- LET'S DO SOMETHING ELSE AND WE DID THAT AND IT CAME OUT LIKE SOMETHING ELSE TOO. THAT WAS THE INSPIRATION, I GUESS.

>> YEAH, NOW IT'S JUST.

>> IT'S JUST INSPIRING TO SEE PEOPLE LIKE IT SO MUCH WHEN WE PLAY IT.

>> YEAH, YEAH.

>> IT DOESN'T -- IT DOESN'T GET BORING. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR LIFE CHANGED AFTER THAT, AND IF SO HOW?

>> IT CERTAINLY DID. I MEAN, WE STILL -- WE'RE STILL IN THE BAND NOW, STILL TOURING MAKING RECORDS. AT THAT POINT THAT WASN'T SO SURE. BECAUSE WE MADE TWO RECORDS BEFORE IT THAT WE REALLY LIKED. AND NOTHING MUCH HAPPENED. SO WE WERE SORT OF THINKING ABOUT GIVING UP THE BAND.

>> REALLY?

>> YEAH, SO WE SAID WE ARE MAKING ONE MORE RECORD.

>> PLAY ONE MORE CHINESE RESTAURANT.

>> MAKE ONE MORE RECORD. SO WE --

>> EXACTLY. THEN WE MADE ANOTHER RECORD AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED. SO IT'S KIND OF -- EVERYTHING IS A BONUS AFTER THAT, YOU KNOW.

>> SO WHAT DO YOU OWE YOUR LONGEVITY?

>> I THINK ONE OF THE REASONS IS THAT WE ALL WRITE SONGS. WE ARE KIND OF NOT JUST ONE DICTATORSHIP BAND. THAT'S A GOOD THING. AND WE STILL INSPIRE EACH OTHER BECAUSE WE ARE SORT OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND DIFFERENT MUSICIANS BUT WITH A CERTAIN CHEMISTRY TOGETHER THAT NO ONE ELSE CAN COME UP WITH AND NOT EVEN OURSELVES CAN COME UP WITH THAT WITH OTHER PEOPLE. AND THAT'S SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO BUILD FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS. IT'S NOT JUST A RANDOM THING. SO IT'S -- IT WOULD BE A SHAME TO THROW IT AWAY LIKE LIGHT HEARTED.

>> ALSO, TAKE US BACK TO WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED TOO. BECAUSE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG, HOW MANY --

>> BJORN WAS MAYBE 15, 16.

>> YEAH.

>> HOW DID THIS BEGIN FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE BAND.

>> WE WERE IN SCHOOL TOGETHER AND WE START -- WE LIKED THE SAME SORT OF MUSIC.

>> YEAH.

>> BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE A DRUMMER. WE HAD A DRUM MACHINE. AND WE PLAYED WITH THE DRUM MACHINE A LONG TIME. AND THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS WE FOUND JOHN. AND.

>> WE IT AN AUDITION. WE HAD AUDITIONS.

>> WE HAD DIFFERENT DRUMMERS TOO. BUT WHEN WE FOUND HIM -- HE ALSO LIKED THE SAME STUFF WE LIKED. SO IT WAS --

>> SPEAKING OF STUFF YOU LIKE WE KEEP REFERENCING THAT, WHAT ARE THE INSPIRATIONS FROM WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG AND LIKE ARE YOU INFLUENCED BY ANYBODY NOW?

>> WHAT WE ALL LIKE WHEN WE GOT TOGETHER WAS THE BANDS LIKE THE LILLIES AND COSTELLO I CAN'T REMEMBER. STONE ROSES MAYBE STUFF LIKE THAT. AND THE SORT OF LOW FI STUFF MAYBE.

>> YEAH, WE SORT OF HAVE A BIT DIFFERENT BACKGROUND MAYBE. BUT AT THAT POINT IT WAS A LOT OF THE LOW-FI STUFF. BUT I'M FROM THE BEGINNING SORT OF A 60s POP GUY. BJORN WAS MORE IN SYN POP.

>> 80s POP GUY.

>> AND JOHN WAS HEAVY METAL WE WERE REALLY DIFFERENT IN THE BEGINNING.

>> YEAH WITH, BUT DURING -- THROUGH TIME IT SEEMS YOU KIND OF CAME TOGETHER.

>> THEN WE WENT AWAY AGAIN AND NOW, YOU KNOW, IT'S GOOD TOO -- I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD LIKE THE SAME STUFF TOTALLY.

>> IT WOULD BE LIKE WE SOUNDED LIKE ZZ TOP AND WE COMBINED THIS.

>> IMAGINE. YOU AND JOHN GO ZD TOP YOU NEVER KNOW, RIGHT.

>> NO.

>> DO YOU SEE YOURSELF DOING THIS A LONG TIME? AND IF YOU WEREN'T DOING THIS WHAT WOULD YOU THINK YOU'D BE DOING.

>> WE TAKE ONE YEAR AT A TIME AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. WE HAD A DEAL YEARS AGO -- MAYBE TEN YEARS AGO WE MADE A DEAL -- NOT TEN YEARS AGO BECAUSE THAT WAS AFTER WRITERS BLOCK. BUT I DON'T KNOW, NINE YEARS AGO.

>> OKAY LET'S SAY NINE YEARS AGO.

>> WE MADE A DEAL WE WERE GOING TO MAKE TEN ALBUMS. WE HAVE A COUPLE LEFT. BUT AFTER THAT WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS, YOU KNOW, LIKE IF WE STILL ENJOY IT WE'LL STILL DO IT. AND MAYBE WE TAKE A BREAK. MAYBE WE DON'T TAKE A BREAK. I DON'T KNOW, YOU KNOW.

>> THAT DEAL SEEMS A BIT VAGUE TO ME.

>> IT'S A BIT VAGUE.

>> WELL WE'RE ON NUMBER EIGHT. TWO MORE TO GO.

>> YEAH, ONE INSTRUMENTAL TOO.

>> YEAH, WE'LL KEEP YOU --

>> I DON'T KNOW, DOES THAT COUNT.

>> IS THAT A HALF RECORD?

>> 8.5, YOU KNOW. I WANT TO GET TO AUDIENCE QUESTIONS IN A BIT. BUT I WANT TO DO A SPEED ROUND QUESTION AND ANSWER WITH YOU GUYS ASK ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ET CETERA. SO DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR -- THE FIRST CONCERT YOU EVER ATTENDED?

>> THE FIRST CONCERT I EVER ATTENDED, I DO REMEMBER IT. I'M NOT SURE IT'S IT'S INTERESTING FOR YOU GUYS BUT WAS BJORN. AND THE SWEDISH -- WHAT SHALL WE CALL THEM, MUSICIANS, MUSICIAN. BJORN EZE AND LYNN PLAYED WAS HE A KEYBOARD PLAYER.

>> HE WAS. VERY GOOD. SORT OF LIKE BEAUTIFUL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC.

>> IT WAS INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC. I WENT TO THAT SHOW BECAUSE I COME FROM A REALLY SMALL TOWN IN RURAL SWEDEN. AND I GUESS I WAS INTO MUSIC ALREADY THEN. BUT IT WASN'T A LOT OF MUSIC AROUND. IT WASN'T LIKE I LISTENED TO THEM OR ANYTHING. IT WAS MORE LIKE THERE IS SOME MUSIC, A CONCERT DO YOU WANT TO GO TO A CONCERT? OKAY.

>> CONCERT SOUNDS INTERESTING.

>> YEAH.

>> WOW!

>> WHAT IS THIS CONCERT THING?

>> YEAH, LET'S TRY THAT.

>> THAT WAS MY FIRST SHOW.

>> WHAT ABOUT YOU?

>> YEAH I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER. BUT LET'S SAY WAS THE BOPPERS. THE SWEDISH.

>> ROCK A BILLY COVER BAND. BUT THEY WERE BIG IN THE 80s.

>> IN THE 80s, YEAH.

>> WHAT ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL ARTISTS OR EVEN ALBUMS OR SONGS THAT STILL INSPIRING YOU TODAY?

>> WOW! THAT'S A BIG ONE. I'M GOING TO GO REALLY LIKE CLICHE BECAUSE IT'S THE 50th ANNIVERSARY AND YOU HAVE THIS NEW DELUXE BOX. I'M GOING WHITE ALBUM.

>> WHAT ABOUT YOU?

>> I LIKE THE DUKE ELLINGTON AND JOHN KOHL TRAIN WHEN THEY PLAY JAZZ TOGETHER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S CALLED. BUT YOU KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS.

>> TOTALLY. THOSE ARE BOTH GREAT. VERY DIFFERENT BUT ALSO VERY GOOD. DO YOU EVER HAVE TIME TO WATCH TV.

>> YEAH.

>> YES I STREAM, STUFF.

>> WHAT'S THE LAST THING YOU STREAMED? YOU STREAM STUFF ALL RIGHT.

>> I STREAM THING WHAT IS IT.

>> WOW, WHAT'S THE LAST THING I STREAMED? HMM.

>> ONE OF THE FAVORITE THINGS THAT.

>> MAKE SOMETHING UP THIS IS TAKING TOO LONG.

>> RIGHT. QUIET TIME.

>> OH, I'M HAVING A BLOCKOUT NOW CAN YOU HELP ME.

>> YEAH I CAN'T BECAUSE I DON'T REALLY WATCH THAT MUCH BUT I'M STREAMING HOCKEY WHICH IS ALSO.

>> OKAY.

>> ENTERTAINMENT.

>> YEAH, DEFINITELY.

>> I'M GOING TO GO CLICHE AGAIN BECAUSE THERE IS A ANNIVERSARY FOR INK MAR BERGMAN, I THINK IT WAS 100 YEARS WHAT WAS IT.

>> 80.

>> I'M ASKING.

>> YOU I DON'T KNOW.

>> YEAH, HE WOULD TURN.

>> HE IS NOT A ALIVE ANYMORE.

>> THEY CELEBRATED THAT TWICE IN SWEDEN, BOTH LAST YEAR AND LAST YEAR. THEY KEEP CELEBRATING. AND YEAH, THERE'S BEEN PORTIONS -- I USED TO STUDY FILM WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. FILM STUDIES. AND THERE IS DEFINITELY SOME POINTS TO PEOPLE THIS WHO THINK HE IS A VERY OVERRATED AT PARTS SOMETIMES. BUT I'VE BEEN WATCHING SOME OF THE MOVIES AGAIN IN YEAR BECAUSE THEY WERE STREAMING ON SWEDISH STREAMING.

>> ALL RIGHT.

>> AND, YEAH SOME OF THEM ARE STILL REALLY GOOD. CHECK THEM UP. I LIKE THE THROUGH THE GLASS DARKLY.

>> GREAT STUFF.

>> THANK YOU FOR PLAYING ALONG WITH MY LITTLE GAME. WE HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FROM THE CROWD HERE. FROM THE FANS LET'S GET TO IT. START WITH THIS.

>> WHAT'S UP FELLOWS. THE NEW RECORD IS SLAMMING.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I WAS ASKING A MORE TRADITIONAL QUESTION BUT THEN READING AN ARTICLE ABOUT YOU GUYS AND IT SAID QUOTE, THEIR FIRST GIG WAS AN UNSUCCESSFULLY ONE ABOARD A BOAT IN STOCKHOLM IS THAT TRUE.

>> THAT'S TRUE.

>> I LOVE THE BAD BOAT GIGS. WHAT'S UP? DID YOU FALL?

>> WHAT DID THE BOAT YOU SAY WAS.

>> THE FIRST GIG WAS AN UNSUCCESSFUL GIG ABOARD A BOAT IN STOCKHOLM.

>> WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT.

>> IT WAS A SHRIMP FERRY THEY WERE SERVING SHRIMP AND THEY HAD A DYNAMO STAGE.

>> WE TRIED HARD FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO GET ON THE SHOW, YOU KNOW, GET THAT SLOT.

>> NO ONE TURNED UP.

>> THEN WE GOT IT IT WAS FIVE PEOPLE AND A DOG WATCHING US.

>> YEAH.

>> AND YEAH THAT'S TRUE.

>> THE DOG WAS THIS THERE FOR THE SHRIMP.

>> YEAH, PROBABLY.

>> I DO REMEMBER ONE FUNNY THING WE PLAYED THE SMOKY ROBINSON COVER.

>> WE DID.

>> WE SAW SAUTED IN SHRIMPS.

>> THROW IT BACK IN THE REPERTOIRE, RIGHT?

>> RIGHT.

>> NEXT QUESTION RIGHT THERE.

>> HI.

>> HI.

>> I WAS WORNING IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT YOU GUYS DID PARTICULARLY WITH YOUR MUSIC TO TRY TO APPEAL TO THE AMERICAN OR OTHER WESTERN MARKETS OUTSIDE OF THE MAIN EU TERRITORIES? BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THE AMERICAN MARKET CAN BE HARD TO BREAK INTO FOR INTERNATIONAL ACTS SINCE YOU HAD SUCCESS I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS STEPS YOU TOOK TO ACCOMPLISH THAT?

>> NO.

>> INTERESTING. WELL, STEPS -- STEPS, I MEAN WE SING IN ENGLISH THAT'S A START. PEOPLE SINGING IN SWEDISH DON'T DO SO WELL HERE. BUT.

>> THEY CAN.

>> THEY CAN. THERE IS ONE BAND THAT DID THAT. NO, BUT WE JUST -- WE DIDN'T THINK ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE THAN LIKE STOCKHOLM WHEN WE DID OUR MUSIC. IT WASN'T AN OPTION TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

>> NO.

>> NO TRY TO MAKE MUSIC WE LIKED OURSELVES, WITH YOU YEAH.

>> AND LOOK AT YOU NOW.

>> YEAH.

>> I MEAN, THANKS FOR THAT QUESTION. I THINK WE HAVE TIME FOR ONE MORE QUESTION.

>> HI.

>> HI.

>> SO I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK CITY?

>> WOW!

>> I CAN START OUT I LIKE TO PLAY TENNIS AT THE EAST RIVER COURTS. THEY'RE NOT VERY CLUB-LIKE, MAYBE. BUT REALLY -- THEY'RE INSPIRING. IT'S BY THE WILLIAMSBURG BRIDGE.

>> ANYTHING? YEAH, I COULD ADD -- THIS IS ONE OF THE TOWNS WE SPENT MOST TIMES, APART FROM SWEDEN MAYBE. WE EVEN LIVED HERE A SHORT PERIOD. SO EVERY TIME I COME HERE IF I HAVE TIME I JUST LIKE WALKING THE STREETS. AND THAT GOES FOR ANY TOWN. I JUST WALK AND NONI GET LATE FOR SOUND CHECK AND I KEEP WALKING.

>> AND I'M SOUND CHECKING LIKE CRAZY AND WE GO EAT.

>> SOMETIMES I EAT TOO. WALKING AND EATING ARE LIKE THE ESSENTIAL THINGS FOR ME. YEAH.

>> AWESOME. WELL THANK YOU GUYS FOR SPENDING THE AFTERNOON WITH US. REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW ALBUM OUT NOW CALLED "DARKER DAYS.” THEY ARE ON TOUR GIVE IT UP FOR PETE BJORN JOHN, EVERYONE.

>> THANK YOU. [ APPLAUSE ]

>> THANK YOU.
