Vella Lovell Chats Her Role In CW's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"

"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" follows Rebecca Bunch who is a successful, driven, and possibly crazy young woman and impulsively gives up everything – her partnership at a prestigious law firm and her upscale apartment in Manhattan – in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in that exotic hotbed of romance and adventure: suburban West Covina, Calif. Vella Lovell, star of the popular CW series, came to chat about the final season.

>>> HI. MY NAME A GWYNNE WATKINS. WELCOME TO BUILD. OUR NEXT GUEST IS VELLA LOVELL, SHE PLAYS HEATHER ON CRAZY EX-GIRL FRIEND, THE CW MUSICAL COMEDY SERIES NOW IN ITS FOURTH AND FINAL SEASON. LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT A CLIP. \M\M

>> TUCKER WILL SLEEP ON THE COUCH.

>> SO YOUR MOM IS JUST COOL WITH YOU PLAYING OUT HERE BY YOURSELF TO VISIT A WOMAN THAT YOU BARELY KNOW?

>> YEP.

>> AND WHAT ABOUT YOUR DAD? BECAUSE HE AND REBECCA AREN'T ON THE BEST TERMS.

>> OH, MY PARENTS ARE DIVORCED. I ONLY SEE HIM FOR A FEW WEEKS IN THE SUMMER. HE IS --

>> GARBAGE?

>> I TRY NOT TO USE BAD LANGUAGE, BUT YOU'RE RIGHT. HE IS NOT GREAT. HE NEVER LETS ME DO ANYTHING I WANT TO DO. HE MAKES ME WORK CONSTRUCTION. YOU SEE THIS CALLUS?

>> I ALSO HAVE A CALLUS, THIS IS FROM 2005 BUILDING TOWNHOUSES IN TUCSON.

>> OH, MY GOSH.

>> SORRY TO BREAK THIS UP, BUT HAVE YOU CHECKED IN WITH YOUR MOM, DOES SHE KNOW YOU ARRIVED SAFELY?

>> OH, YEAH, I TEXTED HER.

>> HEATHER IS RIGHT. I REALLY SHOULD CHECK IN WITH YOUR MOM.

>> YOU CAN TEXT HER. TEXT IS BEST, SHE'S SO BUSY. EXCUSE ME, WHERE IS YOUR BATHROOM?

>> RIGHT THERE.

>> HEY, MARISSA, REBECCA BUNCH HERE. JUST LETTING YOU KNOW TUCKER GOT IN SAFELY AND I'LL TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIM. ALSO THANK YOU FOR RUINING MY FAMILY AND MY CHILDHOOD. DELETE, DELETE, DELETE. YOU'RE RIGHT. I'M THE ADULT NOW. DELETE, DELETE, DELETE, SEND. ALL RIGHT. DOTS ALL RIGHT. HOPE YOU GUYS HAVE A GREAT TIME. LOOK AT THAT. OH, OKAY. WELL, THAT IS SETTLED THEN.

>> HE IS SUCH A GREAT KID. HE REALLY REMINDS ME OF MYSELF AT THAT AGE. YOU KNOW?

>> PLEASE WELCOME TO THE BUILD STAGE, VELLA LOVELL.

>> THANK YOU, GUYS.

>> SO NICE TO SEE YOU HERE.

>> I'M SO EXCITED TO BE HERE.

>> DO YOU MISS THE PURPLE EXTENSIONS WHEN YOU'RE NOT --

>> YEAH, NO. I WOULD NEVER REALLY HAVE LIKE DYED HAIR, SO I'M KIND OF LIKE LIVING OUT MY OWN SELF IN THAT WAY. I'M GETTING IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM.

>> SO MY EXPERIENCE WITH CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND IS THAT PEOPLE EITHER DON'T WATCH IT OR THEY ARE OBSESSED WITH IT.

>> YEAH, I THINKS THAT IT.

>> WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH FANS?

>> I THINK THERE ARE LIKE FIVE OF YOU GUYS. AND THE PEOPLE WHO WATCH THE SHOW IS LIKE A SMALL BUT REALLY MIGHTY BASE. THEY ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT IT AND SO EXCITED ABOUT IT. OR THEY JUST HAVEN'T HEARD OF IT. SO IT IS EITHER/OR. BUT IT IS REALLY AWESOME TO MEET PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE SHOW BECAUSE I THINK IT JUST SPEAKS VERY DIRECTLY TO SOME PEOPLE. LIKE ESPECIALLY IF YOU LOVE MUSICALS OR LIKE YOU'VE HAD A JOURNEY WITH MENTAL HEALTH WHICH PROBABLY ALL OF US HAVE. I THINK THAT IT REALLY CAN HIT HOME FOR PEOPLE. SO PEOPLE ARE USUALLY VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

>> HAVE YOU HAD FANS LIKE KNIT YOU THINGS OR ANYTHING?

>> NO, I'VE NEVER HAD A KNITTED SITUATION. I HAD SOMEONE SEND ME -- FOR ANYONE WHO WATCHES THE THOUGH, THE THEME SONG CHANGES EVERY YEAR. AND THE FIRST SEASON WAS AND AN  -- AND AN ANIMATED CARTOON. AND SOMEONE SENT ME A KEY CHAIN OF MY FACE. AND I WAS LIKE OKAY, THANK YOU. SO, YEAH ---

>> AND YOU'RE IN THE FINAL FOURTH SEASON. AND YOU -- HOW FAR ARE YOU INTO SHOOTING THE FOURTH SEASON?

>> WE'RE SHOOTING -- WE'RE ON A WEEK LONG BREAK RIGHT NOW AND THEN WE'LL BE SHOOTING THE TENTH EPISODE OUT OF 18 FOR THE LAST SEASON.

>> IS IT LIKE HITTING HOME YET THAT IT IS THE LAST SEASON?

>> IT WILL COME IN WAVES. LIKE I THINK THAT WE'RE ALL JOKING THAT IT IS KIND OF LIKE SENIOR YEAR BECAUSE IT IS OUR FOURTH YEAR AND WE GOT INTO COLLEGE, BUT WE'RE LIKE GETTING SAD TO LEAVE EVERYONE. SO IT IS LIKE IT KIND OF COMES IN WAVES LIKE WHEN THE FIRST EPISODE AIRED A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, WE WERE LIKE OH, MY GOSH, IT IS LIKE THE LAST FIRST EPISODE AND WE ALL GOT REALLY SAD. BECAUSE YOU KIND OF BECOME LIKE A WEIRD FAMILY BECAUSE YOU SPEND SO MUCH TIME TOGETHER. SO IT IS DEFINITELY -- WE'LL REALLY MISS EACH OTHER, I THINK. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GETS CLOSER TO THE END OF FILMING.

>> SO YOU IN PARTICULAR HAVE HAD KIND OF A CRAZY JOURNEY WITH YOUR CHARACTER, ESPECIALLY LAST SEASON AND THIS SEASON.

>> YES.

>> WHICH IS REALLY FUNNY BECAUSE AT THE BEGINNING, IT SEEMED LIKE HEATHER WAS SORT OF A COMMENTATOR.

>> YEAH, LIKE A STONER LIVING THE MILLENNIAL DREAM OF LIVING WITH HER PARENTS AND NOT HAVING TO PARTICIPATE IN HER OWN LIFE. AND THEN YEAH, CUT TO THIS SEASON, IT IS LIKE A 180 ALMOST.

>> HOW MUCH DID YOU KNOW IN ADVANCE ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN TO HEATHER?

>> NOT REALLY ANY. THEY KIND OF LIKE -- IT IS KIND OF A FUN RIDE TO JUST GO WITH THE PUNCHES. AND THEY VERY MUCH LISTEN TO THE FANS WHICH IS REALLY COOL. LIKE I THINK BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO WATCH THE SHOW ARE SO SMALL AND SO JUST PASSIONATE THAT THEY VERY MUCH LIKE PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY'RE RESPONDING TO AND TRY TO GIVE THE CHARACTERS ALL A COMPLETE JOURNEY. LIKE I THINK EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER HAS HAD LIKE SUCH A COMPLETE ARC BY THE END OF IT. BUT WE NEVER REALLY KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. SO WE'RE JUST AS SURPRISED AS EVERYONE LIKE READING THE SCRIPT, LIKE THAT IS HAPPENING?

>> YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS A CAREER AND THEN HAD A BABY.

>> AND I DON'T KNOW IF --

>> YEAH, I THINK THAT WE CAN SPOIL IT. YOU'RE MARRIED NOW.

>> SEE, BECAUSE I THINK SO MANY PEOPLE WATCH OUR SHOW ON NETFLIX, OH, MY GOSH, ARE YOU JUSTICE FROM GLOW? JUST BECAUSE MY FRIEND IS SO GLOW AND I WAS LIKE THAT IS AMAZING. ANYWAY, SO YEAH, BECAUSE OUR SHOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WATCH IT ON NETFLIX, SO I WAS POSTING PICTURES BECAUSE HEATHER GOT MARRIED AND THEY WERE LIKE I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND YOU'VE RUINED THE SHOW. AND I WAS LIKE I'M SO SORRY. BUT YEAH, SHE GOT MARRIED LAST FRIDAY ON THE SHOW. WHICH YEAH SHE'S HAD A BABY, SHE GRADUATED COLLEGE, SHE'S MARRIED. WHICH I WOULDN'T HAVE THOUGHT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED SEASON ONE AT ALL.

>> I FEEL LIKE IT IS NOT EVEN REALLY A SPOILER BECAUSE IT IS JUST SUCH A CRAZY THING.

>> YEAH, JUST KIND OF HAVE TO GET ON THE RIDE.

>> DID YOU GET EMOTIONAL FILMING YOUR WEDDING?

>> I DID WEIRDLY. BECAUSE I'M NOT MARRIED. AND SO JUST THE PHYSICAL ACT OF LIKE WALKING DOWN THE AISLE AND PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT YOU AND YOU ARE WEARING YOUR DRESS. I WAS LIKE THIS IS INTENSE. SO YEAH, I DEFINITELY FEEL LIKE I GOT THE PSEUDO ACT OF GETTING MARRIED. IT WAS LIKE OKAY, THIS IS -- THIS IS A BIG THING. BUT, YEAH, IT WAS A REALLY FUN EPISODE TO SHOOT.

>> IT WAS REALLY SWEET.

>> IT WAS REALLY SWEET. BUT YEAH, LIKE FROM -- I MEAN, JUST IF YOU ARE AN ACTOR, YOU NEVER THINK THAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY GOT TO GET THE JOB THAT YOU ARE AUDITIONING FOR. AND SO WITH THIS JOB, I JUST CHOSE OF BEING LIKE SUPER OVER IT AND SUPER DRY. AND TO FIND OUT I GOT IT AND THEN PLAYING IT FOUR YEARS LATER HAS BEEN SUCH A WEIRD RIDE AND JOURNEY BECAUSE I'M LIKE I DIDN'T -- LIKE YOU CAN'T PREPARE FOR FOUR YEARS LATER WHEN YOU'RE DOING A FIVE MINUTE AUDITION.

>> AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE AUDITION. WHAT WAS THE BREAKDOWN FOR HEATHER, LIKE WHAT KIND OF CHARACTER WAS SHE?

>> I THINK IT IS JUST THAT SHE IS SUPER COOL AND EQUALLY WEIRDED OUT AND FASCINATED BY REBECCA. AND I THINK THAT WAS THE CHARACTER DESCRIPTION. AND THEN IT WAS LIKE THE VERY FIRST SCENE WHEN SHE MEETS REBECCA, THAT WAS THE ONLY SCENE. AND SO I DID THAT. I THINK YOU HAD TO SING A SONG. OR YOU COULD, BUT IT WASN'T REQUIRED.

>> DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU SANG?

>> I SANG HALO BY BEYONCE. AND I THINK I WAS AT THAT POINT WHEN I WAS AUDITIONING, I'M JUST WANTING TO HAVE FUN BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW IF YOU'RE GOING TO -- LIKE YOU PROBABLY WILL JUST NOT GET THIS PART, SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE FUN AND BE EXCITED TO PLAY THIS CHARACTER FOR FIVE MINUTES.

>> AND YOU WERE KIND OF RIGHT OUT OF SCHOOL, TOO, RIGHT.

>> YEAH. I WENT TO NYU FOR UNDERGRAD, SO I'M RIGHT BACK HERE AROUND THE CORNER, KIND OF SURREAL. AND THEN I GRADUATED FROM JUILLIARD FOR GRAD SCHOOL IN MAY AND I GOT THIS AUDITION IN JUNE AND GOT IT IN LATE JUNE OR EARLY JULY. SO IT WAS PRETTY EARLY IN THAT, BUT I WAS GOING ON A FEW AUDITIONS LIKE IN THAT MONTH AND I WAS LIKE I'M PROBABLY NOT GOING TO GET THIS LIKE, YOU KNOW, CBS SHOW, SO I MIGHT AS WE WOULD HAVE FUN. SO I JUST DID THAT ONE AUDITION -- I MEAN THAT ONE SCENE. AND THEN THEY WERE LIKE OKAY, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE YOU DO A SKYPE SESSION WITH RACHEL AND HELENE WHO IS THE CREATOR. AND IN OUR LIKE SKYPE CALL BACK, RACHEL AND I FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE BOTH AT NYU AT THE SAME TIME AND DIDN'T KNOW EACH OTHER. SHE WAS LIKE YOU WENT TO JUILLIARD? AND I WENT YEAH, AND NYU FOR UNDERGRAD. AND SHE WAS LIKE WAIT, WHAT? AND WE WERE FINDING OUT THAT WE KNEW ALL THE SAME PEOPLE DURING THIS SKYPE CALL. SO WE MADE THAT CONNECTION AND THEN I THINK THEY GAVE ME A COUPLE NOTES AND I DID THE SCENE AGAIN AND I GOT IT. AND THEN I LITERALLY FLEW OUT AND MET EVERYONE LIKE THE DAY BEFORE WE DID LIKE THE TCAs, THIS BIG PANEL. AND I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE SHOW. I HADN'T FILMED OR ANYTHING. AND SHE WAS LIKE TELL US ABOUT CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND AND I WAS LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT. BUT I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING OTHER THAN MY ONE SCENE.

>> SO DID YOU BASE THE CHARACTER ON ANYBODY?

>> I FEEL LIKE I TOOK -- NOT REALLY ANYONE I KNOW. I THINK EVERYONE HAS A LITTLE HEATHER IN THEM LIKE AT MOMENTS, THAT KIND OF OVER IT QUALITY. BUT I FEEL LIKE THERE IS LITTLE HINTS OF PARKS AND RECREATION IN THERE. I DON'T KNOW. BUT LIKE EVERYONE NEEDS THAT LIKE WHAT ARE YOU -- YOU KNOW ESPECIALLY BECAUSE RACHEL AND HER CHARACTER ARE SO ENERGETIC AND FULL OF LIFE, I THINK IT WAS LIKE A REALLY FUN ENERGY DYNAMIC TO PLAY WITH.

>> WAS IT CLEAR FROM THE BEGINNING THAT YOU WERE GOING TO BE SINGING AND DANCING A LOT?

>> I WAS LIKE HOPING IT WASN'T, THAT I WASN'T GOING TO HAVE TO. I LOVE TO SING AND I LOVE TO DANCE, BUT I DON'T CONSIDER MYSELF A SINGER OR DANCER. SO IT WAS KIND OF IRONIC THAT I GOT PLACED ON A MUSICAL TELEVISION SHOW. BUT YEAH, PRETTY EARLY ON IT WAS LIKE EVERYBODY WAS GOING TO BE DOING IT. WE HAVE BROADWAY SINGERS AND DANCERS, AND THEN PETE GARDNER AND I JOINED AT THE SAME TIME AND NOT KNOWING ANYTHING, WE WERE LIKE WAIT, DO YOU SING? PETE WAS LIKE I DON'T SING. AND I'M LIKE YEAH, I'M NOT REALLY A SINGER. BUT IT WAS A FUN CHALLENGE BECAUSE IT ASKS YOU TO RISE TO THE OCCASION. AND WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLE LIKE MUSICAL TEAM WITH ADAM SCHLESINGER AND STEVEN GOLD AND OUR CHOREOGRAPHER IS INCREDIBLE AND SHE'LL WORK WITH YOU TO SEE WHAT MOVES YOU CAN DO AND REHEARSE WITH YOU AS MUCH AS YOU NEED.

>> AND IT REALLY SEEMS LIKE EVERYBODY -- I'M SURPRISED NOT EVERYBODY HAD TO DO LIKE A DANCE AUDITION 37.

>> I KNOW. IT IS REALLY CRAZY. EVEN PETE SAYS HE'S NOT A SINGER BUT HE HAS AN AMAZING VOICE. SO IT IS KIND OF LIKE EVERYONE -- THEY VERY MUCH I THINK FOCUSED ON THE ACTING FIRST, SO I THINK IT IS A HAPPY ACCIDENT THAT EVERYONE ENDED UP BEING LIKE SO MUSICAL. AND I ACTUALLY PLAYED PIANO FOR YEARS. SO EVEN THOUGH I DON'T CONSIDER MYSELF A SINGER, I'M VERY MUSICAL. SO I THINK EVERYONE'S SKILLS KIND OF CAME TOGETHER TO FORM THIS WEIRD FAMILY. AND BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS A THEATER BACKGROUND FOR THE MOST PART, EVERYONE IS VERY MUCH SUPPORTIVE AND KIND OF COMMUNITY BASED WHICH IS GREAT.

>> WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MUSICAL NUMBER THAT YOU PARTICIPATED IN?

>> PROBABLY A TIE BETWEEN-LIVE GOT TO LIKE SOUL TRAIN OUT OF THE '70s NUMBER. THAT WAS SEASON TWO. I'LL NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS AGAIN. AND THAT WAS KIND OF AMAZING BECAUSE THEY DID IT UP, IT REALLY LOOKED LIKE SOUL TRAIN. AND THEY HAD LIKE THE CRANE AND LIKE -- IT WAS AWESOME. AND THEY DIDN'T GET TO SHOW IT, BUT THEY HAD LIKE ROLLER SKATING DANCERS, THESE DANCERS WHO COULD ROLLER SKATE DOWN THE -- IT WAS SO MUCH FUN AND WE ACTUALLY HAD A SOUL TRAIN AT THE END OF LIKE SHOOTING THAT DAY.

>> THAT IS AMAZING.

>> AND ALSO THE MOMENT IS ME WHICH IS THE SONG HEATHER GOT TO SING IN THE THIRD SEASON.

>> YOUR BIG SOLO NUMBER.

>> MY BIG NUMBER. AND KATHERINE HAD THESE LIKE REALLY EXTRA ENERGETIC DANCERS BEHIND ME AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE NOTHING AND I KEPT LOOKING BEHIND ME AND BEING LIKE OH, MY GOSH, YOU GUYS ARE GOING FOR IT.

>> AND THAT NUMBER IS KIND OF AMAZING BECAUSE YOU SING DEADPAN. IS THAT HARD?

>> YEAH, IT WAS. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE LIKE THE MUSIC IS SO LIKE THIS IS THE TIME, YOU KNOW. AND SO IT WAS REALLY HARD TO LIKE NOT DO THAT. BUT YEAH, WE HAD TO WORK ON IT A LITTLE BIT IN THE RECORDING BOOTH BECAUSE THEY WERE LIKE NO, CAN YOU DO LIKE LESS. THEY WERE LIKE MAKE IT SOUND JUST LIKE NOTHING. SO IT WAS A CHALLENGE, BUT IT WAS FUN.

>> AND I FEEL LIKE THAT SONG WILL POP UP ON LIKE THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT OR SOMETHING.

>> I HOPE SO.

>> BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A GREAT ANTHEM.

>> YEAH, ONE OF THE WRITERS, BECAUSE WE LIKE PUT OUT A SOUND TRACK FOR EACH SEASON AND ONE OF THE WRITERS SANG IT GENUINELY. SO IF YOU GET THE SOUND TRACK, SHE IS SINGING IT FOR REAL. IT IS A GOOD SONG.

>> IT IS A GOOD SONG. I WANT TO KNOW -- I'M SURE YOU ALL HELP EACH OTHER OUT ON THESE LIKE DIFFICULT MUSICAL NUMBERS. WHAT IS EVERYONE IN THE CAST THE BEST AT? LIKE WHO DO YOU GO TO WHEN YOU NEED HELP WITH LIKE A DANCE STEP OR A SONG.

>> GABRIELLE AND VINNY, THEY ARE INCREDIBLE DANCERS. LIKE THEY BOTH DANCED ON BROADWAY, IN NATIONAL TOURS. AND SO ACTUALLY AND DAVID HALL IS AN AMAZING DANCER, BUT HE WOULDN'T SAY IT. BUT HE'S REALLY GOOD. SO THEY ARE GOOD FOR LIKE PICKING UP CHOREOGRAPHY AND STUFF. AND DONNA LYNN IS AN INCREDIBLE SINGER. AND PETE IS OUR DANCE CAPTAIN, OUR UNOFFICIAL DANCE CAPTAIN JUST BECAUSE OF HIS SPIRIT. SO YEAH, IF YOU NEED LIKE PUMPING UP, PETE WILL DO THAT.

>> THAT IS REALLY CUTE.

>> IT IS REALLY CUTE.

>> SO YOU SAID BEFORE THAT WHEN YOU'RE AUDITIONING FOR THINGS, YOU GET A LOT OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES THROWN AT YOU. HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE AUDITION ROOM?

>> IN THE AUDITION ROOM?

>> YEAH.

>> IT DOESN'T SO MUCH IN THE AUDITION ROOM BECAUSE I THINK THAT IT IS LIKE I JUST TRY TO INHABIT THE CHARACTER, LIKE WHATEVER STORY I'M TELLING THAT DAY. BUT IT IS DEFINITELY -- YEAH, IT IS AN INTERESTING CONUNDRUM TO HAVE BECAUSE I'M LIKE OKAY, SO IF SOMEONE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT ETHNICITY I AM, THEN THEY ARE JUST PUTTING ON IT WHATEVER, THEY ARE KIND OF READING IN ME WHATEVER LIKE WORKS FOR THE STORY. SO IT IS THIS INTERESTING THING WHERE I JUST DON'T SAY ANYTHING AND THE AUDITIONER MIGHT JUST DO THE SCENE AND THEN THEY ARE KIND OF LIKE PUTTING ON WHATEVER STORY THAT THEY SEE IN IT. SO IT IS AN INTERESTING THING WHERE I SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE A CHAMELEON BECAUSE I'M TAKING WHATEVER INTERPRETATION PEOPLE ARE SEEING IN ME AND I'M LIKE OKAY, YOU THINK I'M THIS, WHICH IS FASCINATING.

>> HOW MANY DIFFERENT ACCENTS HAVE YOU LEARNED?

>> I TRIED TO WORK ON A LOT IN SCHOOL AT JUILLIARD BECAUSE I FELT LIKE I'D GET A BUNCH OF THINGS THROWN AT ME. THE WEIRDEST THING THAT I PROBABLY WILL NEVER HAVE TO DO IS LIKE AN IRISH ACCENT. I WAS LIKE I'M NOT SURE I'M LEARNING THIS. IRISH AND SCOTTISH, THIS PROBABLY WON'T COME IN HANDY.

>> YOU NEVER KNOW.

>> YOU NEVER KNOW.

>> AND YOU LEARNED A PAKISTANI ACCENT.

>> YEAH. I WORKED WITH ONE OF MY VOCAL COACHES ON THAT BECAUSE I WANTED TO GET THAT RIGHT. AND THEN THE CAST WAS INCREDIBLY SUPPORTIVE AS WELL.

>> WERE YOU BASED ON A REAL PERSON?

>> OH, I DON'T THINK I WAS, NO, BECAUSE I THINK THAT THEY WERE REALLY SMART TO ADD THAT CHARACTER BECAUSE I THINK SO MANY TIMES IN ROMANTIC COMEDIES IT IS LIKE, OH, IT IS SO CLEAR THAT THESE TWO PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TOGETHER.

>> AND THE OTHER PERSON IS TERRIBLE.

>> YEAH. AND SO I THINK THAT IT WAS A TESTAMENT TO THE WRITING THAT THEY WERE LIKE ACTUALLY THIS IS A COMPLICATED CHOICE AND TO ADD A CHARACTER THAT LIKE REALLY DID CONNECT WITH CAMILLE AND IN ANOTHER WORLD THEY WOULD HAVE REALLY GOTTEN ALONG GREAT AND MIGHT HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE. BUT EVEN THE MOST PERFECT PERSON IN THE WORLD, EVEN IF YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH SOMEBODY, THE MOST PERFECT PERSON WON'T COMPARE TO THAT PERSON. AND I FELT LIKE IT WAS A REALLY MEMORABLE ROLE. IN LIFE THERE IS A MILLION AMAZING PEOPLE THAT YOU CAN CONNECT WITH. AND IT IS ABOUT LIKE WHO DO YOU CHOOSE TO CONNECT WITH IN A SPECIAL WAY, YOU KNOW. AND SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS INCREDIBLY LIKE NUANCED OF THEM TO ADD THAT CHARACTER.

>> GREAT MOVIE.

>> YEAH, IT WAS GOOD. IT IS CRAZY WITH INDEPENDENT FILMS, YOU DON'T THINK THAT THEY WILL EVER -- YOU'RE LIKE I HOPE IT COMES OUT. AND SO IT IS AMAZING THE JOURNEY THAT FILM HAD.

>> AND YOU WERE ON ANOTHER SHOW PREMIERING IN A COUPLE WEEKS, WHICH IS PRINCESSES OF POWER.

>> YEAH, REBOOT OF SHIRA IS COMING OUT ON NETFLIX.

>> AND TELL ME ABOUT WHO YOU'RE PLAYING.

>> I PLAY THE MERMAID PRINCESS, WHICH IS MY DREAM COME TRUE. SHE IS LIKE THE PRINCESS OF SeaWORLD. NOT SeaWORLD, BUT THE SEA WORLD. AND SHE CAN CONTROL WATER AND KIND OF LIKE -- LIKE THAT IS HER SUPER POWER. HER LEGS TURN INTO A FISHTAIL AND SHE BECOMES A MERMAID. AND SHE IS KIND OF LIKE A COUSIN TO HEATHER. LIKE FROM CRAZY EX. SHE'S A VERY DRY MERMAID.

>> IRONICALLY.

>> IRONICALLY SHE'S A DRY MERMAID, YEAH. SO SHE IS KIND OF LIKE VERY COOL AND DRY, BUT THEN SHE JOINS THE REBELLION AND HELPS SHIRA TO FIGHT THE EVIL HOARD. BUT EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH THE CARTOON WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE OR IF YOU HAD KIDS, WE SAW A COUPLE OF THE FIRST EPISODES AND IT IS SO GREAT AND SO LIKE FEMALE POWER AND WORKING TOGETHER AND LIKE ALL THE PRINCESSES ARE NOT LIKE THESE SKINNY KIND OF PERFECT PRINCESSES THAT YOU SEE. THEY ARE LIKE WEIRD AND AWKWARD AND TALL AND BIG AND WE HAVE LIKE A YEAR COUPLE PRINCESS. AND IT IS REALLY -- AND THEY HAVE BROWN SKIN, BLACK SKIN, AND IT IS REALLY INCREDIBLE. IT IS LIKE -- EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT.

>> I LOVED THAT SHOW WHEN I WAS A KID, BUT THEY ALL LOOKED EXACTLY ALIKE. EVEN THE BOYS AND GIRLS.

>> YEAH, SO THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT BODY TYPES AND THEY ARE ALL STRONG AND YEAH, IT IS AN INCREDIBLE THING TO BE A PART OF. I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT IT.

>> AND ONE LAST THING ABOUT CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIENDS. HAS THERE BEEN A MOVIE DISCUSSED FOR AFTER?

>> NO. IS THERE? I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T KNOW.

>> I'M KIND OF HOPING. I DON'T WANT TO END.

>> NO, BUT WE DID DO -- THEY DID DO A TOUR LAST YEAR WHICH I COULDN'T TO BECAUSE I WAS DOING A PLAY AT THE TIME. BUT I DID ONE OF THE SHOWS IN SAN DIEGO. AND THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN. THE LIVE SHOWS ARE SO MUCH FUN. AND SO ACTUALLY I THINK THAT WE MIGHT -- THERE IS TALK OF DOING A TOUR AFTER THE SHOW. I THINK THEY WERE SAYING BRAZIL, APPARENTLY PEOPLE WATCH THE SHOW IN BRAZIL. SO MAYBE WE'LL GO TO BRAZIL. I DON'T KNOW. BUT IT WOULD BE REALLY FUN TO DO A TOUR AFTER BECAUSE THE FANS ARE SO EXCITED AND IT IS LIKE EVERYONE IS SINGING ALONG AND IT IS A BLAST.

>> WE HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE.

>> REALLY?

>> HI. MY QUESTION IS SINCE IT IS HALLOWEEN, I WAS -- ASIDE FROM WATCHING HOCUS-POCUS --

>> WHICH I REALLY MIGHT DO TONIGHT.

>> SO OTHER THAN THAT, WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES OR RITUALS?

>> I DO ALWAYS LOVE TO DRESS UP, BUT I USUALLY NEVER LIKE PLAN OUT -- OH, MY GOSH, BROOM DAREL. THAT IS INCREDIBLE. YEAH, I FEEL LIKE I ALWAYS DO A LAST MINUTE COSTUME AND I HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE. IT IS LIKE PEOPLE DON'T GET IT. WHICH MAYBE IS MY HALLOWEEN RITUAL. LAST YEAR I WAS LIKE FROM "GAME OF THRONES," BUT LIKE THE MODERN DAY ASSISTANT. SO I HAD LIKE A BLUETOOTH. I HAVE THE DRAGONS IS LINE THREE. AND EVERYONE WAS LIKE WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YEAH. ANYWAY, SO, YEAH, I THINK THAT IS MY RITUAL. EXPLAINING LAST MINUTE COSTUMES.

>> HI. FIRST OFF, THAT IS AN AWESOME COSTUME. AND I'M SORRY THAT NOBODY ELSE GOT IT. I DRESSED UP AS NOT ANYTHING SO CREATIVE, BUT I WAS DARIO ONE TIME AT A '90s PARTY AND CLEARLY WASN'T THE RIGHT GENERATION THERE BECAUSE NOBODY GOT IT. AND IT WAS PERFECT.

>> OH, MAN.

>> SO DISAPPOINTING. BUT SPEAKING OF SORT OF BEING A CHARACTER, IF YOU WERE ANY OTHER CHARACTER ON THE SHOW, IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO ONE DAY JUST SWAP CHARACTERS, WHO WOULD IT BE?

>> THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION. I THINK THAT I WOULD BE VALENCIA, GABRIELLE'S CHARACTER. BECAUSE IT IS REALLY FUN -- I THINK SHE'S DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB PLAYING THE CHARACTER. I THINK IT IS SO FUN LIKE THE MEAN GIRL THING. AND ALSO THE JOURNEY THAT SHE GOT TO GO ON WHERE SHE BECAUSE THE MEAN GIRL AND NOW SHE'S EXPLORING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE NICE AND TO HAVE FRIENDS. GABRIELLE BRINGS SUCH A GREAT CURIOSITY TO THAT. I THINK IT WOULD BE A FUN CHARACTER TO PLAY. IT IS ALWAYS FUN TO PLAY SOMETHING AND FLIP IT ON ITS HEAD AND SHE'S DONE THAT SO GREAT. SO I'D BE VALENCIA FOR A DAY.

>> HI. ONE, I GOT A NOTIFICATION ON MY PHONE THIS MORNING WITH AN IDEA FOR A LAST MINUTE HALLOWEEN COSTUME THAT I MUST HAVE SENT IN THE PAST YEAR. IT IS A GHOST WRITER. SO I GUESS YOU DRESS UP AS A GHOST BUT YOU ARE WRITING. AND I MUST HAVE SAID THAT IN THE PAST YEAR, BUT YOU'RE WELL I DON'T TO TAKE IT.

>> I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO SAY FROM THE PBS SHOW THE GHOST WRITER.

>> NO, BUT JUST A GHOST THAT WRITES.

>> YEAH, YEAH.

>> THIS IS GETTING TOO LONG. WHY AM I STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS. I WAS WONDERING BECAUSE YOU KNOW THE SHOW IS ENDING AND YOU ARE STILL FILMING IF YOU HAVE ANY PROJECTS COMING UP THAT YOU ARE EXCITED ABOUT OR IF YOU ARE JUST WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

>> YEAH, SHIRA IS COMING OUT, BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR LIKE THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. SO THAT WAS A LONG PROCESS IN THE MAKING. BUT I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANYTHING ON THE HORIZON, WHICH IS BOTH SCARY AND EXCITING AND WEIRD BECAUSE WE'VE HAD THIS SHOW HAPPEN FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS. SO YEAH, I DON'T KNOW. WHICH IS A FUN PLACE TO BE. OPEN HORIZON.

>> BACK TO THE AUDITIONS.

>> BACK AT MAKING WEIRD CHOICES AND AUDITIONS.

>> WORKED OUT WELL SO FAR. AND YOU CAN WATCH CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIENDS FRIDAY NIGHTS AT 9:00 P.M. ON THE CW. PREVIOUS SEASONS ARE ON NETFLIX. AND PRINCESSES OF POWER IS STREAMING ON NETFLIX BEGINNING NOVEMBER 16. EVERYBODY GIVE IT UP FOR VELLA LOVELL.
