>> YEAH, I DIDN'T SEE IT UNTIL THE PREMIERE IN NEW YORK. I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS GOING TO DO THAT. I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE ROMANOFFS EXCEPT FOR MY EPISODE. EVERYTHING WAS SHROUDED IN SECRECY. YES, IT WAS A VERY VIOLENT, SURPRISING BEGINNING.

>> OH, WELL, I THINK MATTHEW WAS TRYING TO WRITE ABOUT EACH STORY TOUCHES ON THE IDEA OF ENTITLEMENT AND THE IDEA OF LINEAGE AND SO WHAT IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE ROMANOFFS. A LOT OF THE ONES THAT I'VE SEEN SO FAR HAVE TO DO WITH, YOU KNOW, GETTING YOUR COMEUPPANCE FOR HAVING BEEN ELITIST, OR YOU KNOW, YOUR DOWNFALL.

>> THAT'S INTERESTING. YEAH, AND IT'S FUNNY HOW HE TIES THAT EGO INTO THEIR RELATIONSHIPS. THERE'S A ROMANTIC THING IN EACH EPISODE TOO AND HOW THAT EGO IMPACTS THAT RELATIONSHIP. I WAS REALLY FASCINATED ABOUT IT. I SAW ANASTASIA AS A KID. THEY LIKE MADE A CARTOON OR A DISNEY MOVIE, AND I REMEMBER SPIRALING AS A KID. THIS STORY IS SO MESSED UP. IT IS SO INTRIGUING. TELL US ABOUT YOUR STORY IN THE ROMANOFFS.

>> I PLAY A MOTHER WHO'S WAITING TO HAVE HER FIRST GRANDCHILD, AND THERE IS -- WHAT DEVELOPS OVER THE COURSE OF THE EPISODE IS JUST THAT THERE'S SOME QUESTION ABOUT WHO THE REAL FATHER OF MY DAUGHTER IS, SO WHO THE REAL GRANDFATHER IS, AND SO THAT'S SORT OF WHAT IT'S ABOUT.

>> THE FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS I GOT THE SCRIPT, AND BECAUSE IT WAS A REALLY BIG PART AND I THOUGHT IT WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, I WAS PRETTY SURE THAT IT WAS A MISTAKE THAT I HAD GOTTEN IT. AND THEN WHEN I REALIZED SHE WAS A GRANDMOTHER AS WELL, IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE PERHAPS THIS WAS JUST GOING TO BE SOME FUNNY ANECDOTE WHERE MY AGENTS MEANT TO SEND ME SOMETHING ELSE. BUT THEN MATT SAID THAT HE DID MEAN TO SEND IT TO ME, SO I WAS DELIGHTED AND SO MANY OF MY OWN FEELINGS ABOUT BEING -- HOW SURREAL IT IS TO BE THIS OLD, YOU KNOW, DOING THE SHOW WAS REALLY A RECEPTACLE FOR ALL OF MY ANXIETIES THAT I HAVE PERSONALLY AND PROBABLY MY ANXIETY ABOUT EVEN THE FACT THAT I WAS ELIGIBLE TO PLAY A GRANDMOTHER. THAT'S USUALLY FUN WHEN THE ACTUAL ROLE YOU CAN LET SOME OF THAT ANXIETY OUT.

>> I WAS GOING TO SAY, YOU WERE PROBABLY ABLE TO USE SOME OF THAT. YOUR CHARACTER IS KIND OF THIS CONTROLLING, ANXIOUS WOMAN?

>> YES, GIRL, GO. ONE OF MY FAVORITE LINES IN THE SHOW WHEN I READ IT WAS FUCKING MILLENNIALS, AND EACH TIME I SAID IT IT WAS JUST LIKE THIS RELISHING OF THIS MOMENT.

THE CONVERSATIONS AND THE DYNAMIC BETWEEN YOU TWO IS REALLY INTERESTING AS IT COMES TO WOMANHOOD, SO YOUR CHARACTER IS KIND OF VERY PROGRESSIVE, AND THEN SHE HAS THIS DAUGHTER WHO'S A THROWBACK, AND I LOVED SEEING THAT CONVERSATION HAPPEN. IT'S SOMETHING THAT I'M SEEING ALL THE TIME WITH MY FRIENDS AS WE ALL MAKE DIFFERENT CHOICES, YOU KNOW?

SO YEAH, I FOUND THAT PART OF THE RELATIONSHIP PRETTY PROFOUND AND THE FACT THAT SHE'S SURPRISINGLY INTUITIVE AT THE END, I FEEL LIKE IS REALLY KIND OF BEAUTIFUL, MOTHER, DAUGHTER THING.

>> BUT YOU'RE ALWAYS SO COMPLICATED, AND I DON'T THINK ANYBODY IS ABLE TO WRITE MORE COMPLEX CHARACTERS THAN MATTHEW WEINER. YOUR CHARACTER JULIE HAD SO MANY THINGS HAPPENING IN A DAY IN HER LIFE.

>> AS "MAD MEN" IS EVIDENCE AS WELL. HE'S A SPECTACULAR WRITER FOR WOMEN.

>> WHAT WAS IT LIKE FILMING IN NEW YORK? THE ROMANOFFS IS FILMED ALL OVER THE WORLD. I THINK I READ SIX OR SEVEN OR EIGHT DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. YOURS TAKES PLACE CLEARLY IN NEW YORK CITY. I KIND OF THOUGHT OF IT LIKE A LOVE LETTER TO THE CITY, YOU DO LIKE A NICE LITTLE TOUR?

>> YEAH, I THINK WITH BERGDORF'S AND CARNEGIE HALL AND THE RUSSIAN TEAROOM, IT'S SO EASY TO TALK ABOUT ELITISM, HE DID IT WITH PARIS AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE ELSE, I'M SURE EVERYWHERE ELSE, TOO THE WAY OUR CITIES ARE SORT OF SECTIONED OFF IN THESE CLASS WARS, BUT IT'S A DELIGHT FOR ME. I GREW UP HERE, AND SO WHEN I SEE THE CAMERA TRUCKS AND THE TRAILERS IN SOME NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE I WALKED AROUND BEING LIKE ACTORS, OH, MY GOD. COULD IT EVER HAPPEN? OR WHEN I WAS LIKE POUNDING THE PAVEMENT DOING AUDITIONS FOR TAMPAX COMMERCIALS, YOU KNOW, IT'S VERY POIGNANT TO ME NOW TO WALK UP TO A SET AND ACTUALLY BE HIRED ON THAT PARTICULAR PRODUCTION.

>> THAT'S SO COOL. AND EACH -- I KIND OF LIKE TO CALL EACH OF THESE EPISODES LIKE A LITTLE MOVIE. THEY'RE OVER AN HOUR LONG, AND THERE'S LIKE THE FULL CONCLUSION AT THE END. YOU GET YOUR TAKE AWAY. IT'S ALMOST LIKE -- FEELS A LITTLE BIT LIKE A SHORT STORY, I THINK. WHEN I READ IT, I WAS, YOU KNOW, OVER THE MOON THAT I WOULD GET TO PLAY ALL -- THE WHOLE -- RUN THE GAMUT WITH THIS WOMAN.

>> THAT'S WHY I LOVE THAT YOU CAN'T BINGE WATCH THIS REALLY. IT COMES OUT WEEK BY WEEK, AND I LOVE THAT BECAUSE EACH EPISODE IS SO DIFFERENT, AND THAT GETS YOU SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT ONE, AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT. I THINK IT'S LIKE TAKING YOU BACK TO BE MORE --

HER BONES WERE FINALLY FOUND, AND ALEXI WAS FINALLY FOUND, AND THEY IDENTIFIED PRINCE PHILIP THE QUEEN'S HUSBAND IS THE NEPHEW OF THE CZAR.
