Sebastián Yatra Chats His Single, "Ya No Tiene Novio"

With his warm blend of romantic balladry, Latin pop, and reggaeton, singer/songwriter Sebastián Yatra first found success as a 19-year-old when his 2013 single, "El Psicólogo," became a hit in his native Colombia and around Latin America. Years later, the reggaeton/EDM hit "Traicionera" further established him as a Latin pop star. Yatra takes the BUILD stage to chat about his new single, "Ya No Tiene Novio."

>>> WHAT'S GOING ON? I’M KEVAN KENNEY. WELCOME TO A NEW EDITION OF BUILD SERIES. OUR GUEST IS A TWO-TIME LATIN GRAMMY NOMINEE WHOSE MUSIC HAS BEEN STREAMED OVER A BILLION TIMES AROUND THE WORLD. PLEASE LET'S GIVE A WARM BUILD WELCOME TO OUR GUEST, SEBASTIAN YATRA. [ APPLAUSE ]

>> LET'S PLEASE WELCOME SEBASTIAN TO THE BUILD STAGE.

>> HOW ARE YOU?

>> I'M DOING GREAT. HOW ARE YOU?

>> VERY HAPPY TO BE HERE. VERY EXCITED. WAS JUST LAUGHING BACKSTAGE A LITTLE BIT WITH THIS VIDEO. I HADN'T SEEN IN A COUPLE WEEKS, LIKE A MONTH I HAVEN'T SEEN IT. IT'S JUST LIKE -- I THINK THE FUNNEST VIDEO WE HAVE DONE SO FAR. WE JUST MADE UP A BUNCH OF RANDOM STUFF. EVEN BEFORE DOING THE VIDEO, WHICH WAS US TAKING EACH OTHER'S GIRLFRIENDS, THE WHOLE CONCEPT TO GET PEOPLE TO WATCH -- TO HEAR THE SONG AND WATCH THE VIDEO WAS TELLING EVERYBODY THAT THE SONG SUCKED AND THAT THE COLLABORATION WAS TERRIBLE AND I DIDN'T WANT TO SING WITH HIM.

>> YOU GOT YOUR BUDDIES GET INVOLVED.

>> MY G. YOU GOTTA GET BACK TOGETHER AND BE FRIENDS. THEN MALUMA WAS SAYING YOU MESSED UP SINGING WITH YATRA. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. THEN THERE WAS ARTISTS THAT GOT ON THERE. IT WAS FUN.

>> THERE'S SOMETHING THAT AS FANS WE WATCH THE VIDEO, YOU CAN TELL WHEN PEOPLE ARE HAVING FUN. I WAS WATCHING WITH YOU. IT'S A FUN VIBE. IT'S A PARTY VIBE.

>> I THINK THAT WAS THE BEST PART OF IT. THE VIDEO, IT HAD A GREAT STORY LINE. IF WE WEREN'T AS CLOSE AS WE ARE AND THERE WASN'T THAT VIBE OF JUST MAKING FUN OF THINGS AND REALLY ENJOYING THE MOMENT, MAYBE IT WOULDN'T HAVE TRANSMITTED WHAT IT DOES. BUT THE VIDEO YOU SEE IT AND YOU ARE LAUGHING AT THE SAME TIME THE SONG IS SEXY. SO IN THE CLUB, IT'S A FUN SONG TO SING. IT'S GIVING GIRLS AND GUYS BAD ADVICE THAT IF THEY BREAK UP THEY HAVE TO DRINK THIS REALLY STRONG COLOMBIAN DRINK AND MIX IT WITH TEQUILA.

>> DOUBLE IT UP.

>> DOUBLE IT UP SO YOU CAN MAKE BETTER DECISIONS.

>> LET'S START WITH A HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> OCTOBER 14th.

>> OCTOBER 15th.

>> OH, ALL RIGHT. I'M A FELLOW OCTOBER BABY. I WAS BORN -- MY BIRTHDAY WAS SUNDAY.

>> WHAT DAY WAS THAT?

>> OCTOBER 28. YOU ARE A LIBRA. I'M A SCORPIO. I'M ALMOST --

>> I'M A FULL-BLOWN SCORPIO. I KNOW THE 23, 24, DEPENDING WHAT'S MORE -- I'M ACTUALLY NOT A LIBRA. I'M ACTUALLY A SCORPIO.

>> ARE YOU INTO THAT STUFF AT ALL? DO YOU READ INTO THAT STUFF?

>> A LITTLE BIT. I MEAN, NOT SO MUCH READING THE HOROSCOPE. BUT, FOR EXAMPLE, YATRA, IT'S MORE A SPIRITUAL NAME. IT'S NOT MY ACTUAL LAST NAME. MY LAST NAME IS OBONDO. IT'S TOO MUCH LIKE OBAMA. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN WEIRD. SEBASTIAN OBAMA. YATRA MEANS SPIRITUAL JOURNEY. A LOT OF PEOPLE IN INDIA, THEY GO ON A YATRA, WHICH IS A TRIP TO A SACRED PLACE TO FIND PEACE, TO FIND LOVE, TO FIND GOD. THIS WAS KIND OF WHAT MY CAREER IS FOR ME. YATRA IS SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL FOR ME. ON MY BIRTHDAYS, I SPEND THEM SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT, DEPENDING WHERE THE STARS ALIGN. IT'S WEIRD BUT IT'S COOL.

>> IT'S COOL. YOU WERE ON TOUR, RIGHT?

>> I SPENT IT IN MIAMI. THAT WAS AWESOME. I SPENT IT WITH MY FRIENDS IN MIAMI.

>> WHAT DID YOU DO?

>> WE GOT REALLY DRUNK, A COUPLE DAYS STRAIGHT.

>> GO TO ANY CLUBS DOWN THERE?

>> A COUPLE CLUBS. WE DID A PARTY AT MY FRIEND'S HOUSE. I HAVE A LOT OF AMERICAN FRIENDS. I GREW UP HERE IN THE STATES. I WENT TO COLLEGE IN BOSTON. FOR LIKE FOUR MONTHS. THIS IS NOT FOR ME.

>> I WANTED TO ASK YOU ABOUT YOUR UPBRINGING. IF I HAVE THIS RIGHT, AGE 5 TO 20, YOU GREW UP IN MIAMI. THEN YOU MOVED BACK TO COLOMBIA. THAT'S ALMOST REVERSED. TYPICALLY, YOU ARE RAISED AND COME HERE TO BECOME AN ARTIST IN THE U.S. MARKET. DO YOU FEEL LIKE THAT ORDER OF EVENTS GROWING UP HERE AND MOVING BACK TO COLOMBIA, DID THAT AFFECT YOU AS AN ARTIST?

>> IT AFFECTED ME POSITIVELY. I ALWAYS WANTED TO SING IN SPANISH SINCE I WAS A KID. I HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY ARTISTS LIKE IGLESIAS. THERE'S ARTISTS LIKE -- WE HAVE A SONG NOMINATED IN VEGAS. WE ARE CROSSING OUR FINGERS. VERY. EXCITED ABOUT THAT. HOW DO I START MY CAREER IN THE LATIN INDUSTRY? YOU SEE THE ARTISTS ON THE RADIO OR HAVE SOMETHING BIG HAPPENING IN THE U.S. MARKET. THEY ALREADY BROUGHT A STORY BEFORE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES. MAYBE IF I START IN THE U.S., I WON'T BE STARTING STRONG. THEN IT WILL BE REALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET BIG IN OTHER MARKETS LIKE COLOMBIA, LIKE ARGENTINA, LIKE MEXICO. I REALLY WANTED TO GET CLOSER TO MY CULTURE, TO COLOMBIA. I GREW UP IN THE UNITED STATES. I SPEAK SPANISH FLUENTLY. BUT I NEVER LIVED THERE MUCH. SO MAYBE I JUST WASN'T SO ACCUSTOM TO THE CULTURE. WE WENT FOR IT. I MOVED BACK TO COLOMBIA. I RELEASED MY FIRST SINGLE THERE. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING NONSTOP FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. IT'S BEEN AMAZING. IT'S BEEN TIRING. I NEVER ACTUALLY FEEL TIRED. I FEEL MOTIVATED AND SO HAPPY, BECAUSE EVERYTHING THING WE'RE DOING WE'RE ABLE TO TOUCH PEOPLE THROUGH OUR MUSIC, THROUGH OUR SONGS. HOPEFULLY, IT'S SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT HEAR OUR MUSIC.

>> DID YOU FIND THAT GROWING UP IN THE U.S., IN MIAMI, DID IT GIVE YOU MORE CONFIDENCE WHEN TRYING TO ENTER THE U.S. MARKET AS AN ARTIST? I TALKED TO OTHERS. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU COME HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME, TRYING TO CROSS OVER, IT CAN BE INTIMIDATING. MALUMA WAS SAYING, YOU HEAR ABOUT THESE PLACES, IT'S MYTHICAL. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAD MORE CONFIDENCE BECAUSE IT WAS NORMALIZED FOR YOU, IT WAS SOMETHING YOU GREW UP HERE?

>> I GUESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE. IN THE MOMENT WHERE YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE OR WHERE YOU ARE LIKE, OKAY, I DON'T KNOW THIS PLACE, FOR ME IT'S LIKE, THIS IS HOME. SOMEHOW I MEAN I FEEL AT HOME HERE IN NEW YORK EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T GROW UP HERE. I FEEL LIKE I'M HOME. I TALK TO YOU, KEVAN, AND IT'S LIKE I'M TALKING TO ONE OF MY FRIENDS I'VE KNOWN MY WHOLE LIFE. THAT'S DEFINITELY AN ADVANTAGE FOR ME. OBVIOUSLY, WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT VENUES LIKE MSG OR AMERICAN AIRLINES IN MIAMI OR THE STAPLES CENTER -- WE JUST SANG AT THE MICROSOFT THEATER A WEEK AGO. THAT WAS AMAZING. THESE PLACES ARE STILL MYTHICAL FOR ME. I DREAM OF ONE DAY BEING IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN WITH MY OWN SHOW, IN AMERICAN AIRLINES ARENA. WE ARE WORKING FOR THAT EVERY DAY. THE U.S. MARKET IS A WHOLE NEW START FOR US. YOU KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING IN COLOMBIA AND ALL THESE DIFFERENT PLACES FOR A LONG TIME. I KNOW MORE PEOPLE THERE. THE PEOPLE KNOW US BETTER THERE. BUT FOR US, WE LOVE CHALLENGES. WE'RE JUST STARTING OFF. I THINK THIS IS THE REAL BEGINNING OF OUR QUEST TO GET THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND THE U.S. MARKET TO LISTEN TO OUR MUSIC AND TO DANCE WITH IT AND CRY WITH IT AND JUST BEING ABLE TO ACCOMPANY YOU GUYS IN EVERY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE WITH CRISTIE OVER THERE. SHE'S ON OUR TEAM. WE'RE HAPPY DO THIS.

>> YOU SEEM VERY FOCUSED. I LOVE THIS STORY. YOU WON TWO LATIN AMAs. CONGRATULATIONS. ROUND OF APPLAUSE. [ APPLAUSE ] IT'S HUGE.

>> THANKS.

>> YOU WEREN'T EVEN THERE.

>> I WASN'T.

>> YOU WERE ON TOUR.

>> I WAS IN HOUSTON. I WAS ON TOUR WITH THIS GUY MANUEL TURIZO. HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS 47. HE SINGS REALLY LOW. HE IS AWESOME. HE HAS SOME AMAZING HITS. HE HAS A SONG, YOU SHOULD HEAR IT. WE ARE ON TOUR TOGETHER AROUND THE U.S. WE WILL BE IN NEW JERSEY THIS FRIDAY. WE ARE GOING TO BE IN NEW YORK CITY ON SUNDAY CLOSING OUR TOUR AT THE UNITED PALACE. YOU CAN'T MISS IT FOR THE WORLD. IT'S JUST BEEN AMAZING. I WAS SO SAD THAT I COULDN'T BE AT THE LATIN AMAs. THE TOUR WAS SCHEDULED FROM, LIKE, EIGHT MONTHS AGO. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT. WE WON BEST NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR. WE ALSO WON FAVORITE SONG. THAT WAS INTENSE.

>> WHAT A MONTH. NOT TO EMBARRASS YOU WITH ALL THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS, BUT YESTERDAY, YOU WERE ANNOUNCED AS A PERFORMER AT THE 2018 LATIN GRAMMYS.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. HUGE MAN!

>> WHERE ARE YOU WHEN YOU GET THAT CALL?

>> I KNEW I WAS SINGING AT THE LATIN GRAMMYS TWO WEEKS AGO. WE CONFIRMED IT ON OUR PART. THEY ANNOUNCED IT YESTERDAY. THAT WAS INCREDIBLE, BEING ABLE TO BE A PART OF THE LATIN GRAMMYS THIS YEAR, WHICH IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT YEAR. PERSON OF THE YEAR IS MANA, ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS. WE JUST HAVE A LOT, A LOT OF SURPRISES AT THE LATIN GRAMMYS THIS YEAR. YOU CAN'T MISS IT. LATIN MUSIC IS -- I WOULDN'T SAY TAKING OVER THE WORLD, BECAUSE MUSIC IN GENERAL HAS ALWAYS TAKEN OVER THE WORLD. US LATINS, WE DON'T WANT TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD. WE JUST WANT TO BE A PART OF INTERNATIONAL AND GLOBAL MUSIC. WE DON'T WANT IT TO BE A MOMENT. WE WANT IT TO BE SOMETHING THAT'S NORMAL FOR PEOPLE. PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD, WE WANT PEOPLE TO HEAR MUSIC IN ENGLISH AND MUSIC IN SPANISH AND MUSIC IN KOREAN AND MUSIC IN ALL THE LANGUAGES AND JUST FEEL IT AS THE SAME. IT'S EMOTIONS. IT'S HUMAN EMOTIONS MANY IT'S LOVE. IT'S SOMETHING PEOPLE WANT TO SHARE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THEIR HEART. AS LATINS, WE JUST WANT TO BE THERE WITH YOU GUYS, NO MATTER WHAT. NO MATTER THE TIME, WHETHER IT'S 2018 OR IT'S 2040, WE WANT LATIN MUSIC TO BE A PART OF YOU.

>> YOU SAID RECENTLY ABOUT -- YOU SAID ABOUT EMOTIONS AND SHARING EMOTIONS. YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR SONGS -- YOU WANT TO SHARE LOVE THROUGH YOUR SONGS. WHEN YOU SHARE A SONG, YOU ARE SHARING LOVE. IS THAT THE GOAL WITH YOUR MUSIC?

>> OF COURSE. IT'S THE GOAL WITH MY MUSIC. IT'S PRIMARILY MY GOAL AS A PERSON. I ALWAYS SAY THAT MUSIC IS MY PASSION. BUT IT'S THE MEDIUM, WHAT I WANT TO SHARE WITH PEOPLE IS MORE LIKE A MESSAGE AND SOMETHING -- AS A HUMAN BEING, BEING RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS, SHARING A SMILE. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH A SMILE OR A HUG OR JUST SAYING SOMETHING NICE TO A PERSON THAT CAN CHANGE THEIR WHOLE LIFE FOR POSITIVE. WE ALL HAVE A LOT OF POWER IN OUR VOICES. THE THINGS WE DO. WE HAVE A HUGE RESPONSIBILITY NOT ONLY WITH US BUT WITH OUR HUMAN BEINGS AS WE WORK TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE THIS WORLD EVEN BETTER.

>> TOTALLY. IT'S A GREAT MESSAGE. I SAID AT THE TOP, BILLION STREAMS. 8 MILLION FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM. ALL OF THE AWARD NOMINATIONS, PERFORMANCES. I THINK WE HAVE TO GO BACK AND THANK A SPECIFIC SOMEONE. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THIS STORY IS THIS GIRL IN MIDDLE SCHOOL THAT YOU HAD A CRUSH ON THAT WAS IN THE SCHOOL PLAY AND INSPIRED YOU TO TRY OUT FOR THIS KISSING SCENE. CAN WE GIVE HER A SHOUTOUT?

>> I GUESS. DANI.

>> TELL THE STORY. THIS IS AMAZING. THIS IS WHERE THE MUSIC THING STARTED.

>> OF COURSE. THAT'S WHERE IT ALL STARTED. THERE'S BEEN MUSIC IN MY LIFE FOREVER, SINCE MY DAD PLAYS THE GUITAR AND HE SINGS REALLY COOL. I HAVE A BUNCH OF COUSINS AND UNCLES THAT WRITE MUSIC. I HAVE A COUSIN THAT JUST RELEASED HIS MUSIC IN ENGLISH HERE IN LOS ANGELES. YOU GOTTA CHECK OUT HIS SONG. IT'S "SHATTERED GLASS." HIS NAME IS STEVE OBONDO. CHECK IT OUT. IT'S AWESOME, BECAUSE I NEVER EXPECTED IT. I NEVER THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BE A MUSICIAN. ONE DAY I'M JUST HANGING OUT AFTER SCHOOL. MY PARENTS COULDN'T PICK ME UP AT THE MOMENT. I'M SEEING THE HOT GIRLS IN CLASS. THEY'RE GOING TO AUDITION FOR "HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL." I KNOW THE SONGS. THEN THIS GIRL I REALLY LIKED WAS GOING OVER THERE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A KISSING SCENE AT THE END. WHETHER THE KISSING SCENE WAS WITH HER OR WITH ANOTHER GIRL, I NEVER HAD GIVEN A KISS. IT WAS LIKE, YOU KNOW, IT WAS MY MOMENT TO SHINE. I WENT OVER THERE. I AUDITIONS. I HAD THE LONG HAIR AND MY STYLED IT. THEY CONVINCED ME TO DO HIGHLIGHTS. I LOOKED LIKE -- I WAS THE SAME CONCEPT. I STARTED SINGING. \M YOU KNOW THE WORLD CAN SEE US \M \M IN THE WAY THAT'S \M YOU KNOW THE SONGS. I GOT THE PART. THEN I WAS LIKE -- IT WAS FUNNY, THEY GAVE ME THE PART AND THE DRAMA TEACHER SHE'S LIKE, HELP ME PICK THE GIRL. YOU KNOW, I THINK SHE'S DOING IT GREAT. SHE COULD DEFINITELY DO IT BETTER. THERE WAS NO KISSING SCENE AT THE END. THEY CUT IT OUT.

>> YOU WOUND UP IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE, I WOULD SAY.

>> THANKS.

>> YOUR START IN DEVELOPING AS AN ARTIST IS FASCINATING. YOU WOULD TAKE POPULAR SONGS AND REWRITE THE LYRICS?

>> THAT'S WHAT I STARTED DOING AT THE BEGINNING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE FIRST SONG THAT I CHANGED THE LYRICS WAS "BAD DAY." I DID THAT. I WOULD CHANGE LYRICS TO OTHER SONGS. THAT'S WHEN I STARTED WRITING MY OWN SONGS. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SO DRAMATIC, KEVIN, WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING MUSIC. I STARTED -- MY FIRST SONG WAS WHEN I WAS 12. IT WAS JUST INSANE.

>> HOW DID IT GO? \M\M SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

>> NICELY DONE. [ APPLAUSE ]

>> THAT'S PRETTY GOOD. HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU WROTE THAT?

>> I WAS LIKE 12. I WAS 12 -- THE LYRICS ARE THIS GUY GOT HIS HEART BROKEN INTENSELY.

>> WHERE DID YOU -- YOU ARE NOT LIVING THAT LIFE AT 12. WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THESE IDEAS FROM, TV AND MOVIES?

>> I LIKED WOMEN SINCE I WAS YOUNG. MY FIRST CRUSH WAS WHEN I WAS 4. WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WAS -- WHENEVER YOU LIKE A GIRL, YOU ARE SUPER INTIMIDATED. RIGHT NOW I GET INTIMIDATED IF I LIKE A GIRL. BACK THEN I WAS LIKE 2,000% MORE INTIMIDATED. I COULDN'T GET A WORD THROUGH TO A GIRL THAT I LIKED UNTIL I WAS 14. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? IT WAS AWKWARD. WHEN I WAS 4, I LIKED THIS GIRL THAT WAS -- THIS BLONDE GIRL AT A PARTY.

>> YOU HAD A PARTY AT 4?

>> IT WAS A FARM PARTY. THEN I LIKED HER. I GOT REALLY SAD ABOUT IT, BECAUSE WE NEVER TALKED. I FELT LIKE -- THAT WAS MY FIRST HEARTBREAK.

>> IT HAS EATEN AT YOU ALL THESE YEARS.

>> I DON'T REMEMBER HER NAME. IF I DID, I WOULD LOOK FOR HER.

>> HOPEFULLY, SHE'S DOING WELL.

>> HOPEFULLY.

>> YOU HAVE DONE SO MUCH IN YOUR CAREER. OF COURSE, YOU HAVE LOFTY GOALS AND SO MANY PEOPLE YOU WANT TO MAKE MUSIC WITH. YOU TELL ME WHY THIS SPECIFIC PERSON. ED SHEERAN.

>> THE BEST SONGWRITER RIGHT NOW OF OUR TIME. I OPENED UP HIS SHOW A YEAR AGO. THAT WAS AWESOME. THAT WAS INSANE. WE TALKED BACKSTAGE FOR FIVE, TEN MINUTES. I WAS LIKE -- IT WAS REALLY COOL. I WAS REALLY NERVOUS.

>> YOU WOULD LIKE TO COLLABORATE ON SONG WRITING WITH HIM?

>> THAT WOULD BE AMAZING.

>> SOME ACOUSTIC BASED THING?

>> I'M ACTUALLY GOING AN ACOUSTIC ALBUM FOR NEXT YEAR. IT'S JUST BALLADS. IN THE LATIN INDUSTRY, WHAT'S GOING ON MOSTLY IS REGGAETON AND URBAN. REGGAETON IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD. I SAID NO TAKING OVER.

>> YOU CAN SAY -- I WILL TELL YOU, I'M FROM BILLBOARD, YOU ARE TAKING OVER THE CHARTS FOR SURE. THE LONGEST REIGNING NUMBER ONE IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY IS, OF COURSE, A LATIN SONG. TRUST ME, YOU CAN SAY YOU ARE TAKING OVER. YOU ARE CERTAINLY TAKING OVER.

>> OKAY. A LOT OF LATIN ARTISTS ARE DOING URBAN SONGS. AS A SONGWRITER AND AS A GUY THAT GREW UP LISTENING TO URBANS, I LOVE DOING URBAN. BUT I DID A SONG, FOR EXAMPLE, THIS YEAR. IT'S JUST ME ON A GUITAR. IT HAS 600 MILLION VIEWS RIGHT NOW. I THINK IT'S THAT SONG IN MY CONCERTS THAT PEOPLE LIKE FEEL MOST IN THEIR HEART. I THINK IT'S ONE OF THOSE SONGS THAT CAN LIVE FOREVER. YOU LISTEN TO IT 20 YEARS AGO OR 20 YEARS FROM NOW AND IT'S GOING TO INSPIRE YOU TO FALL IN LOVE AND BELIEVE IN THAT LOVE CAN ACTUALLY LAST FOREVER. I WANT THIS GENERATION AND THESE KIDS GROWING UP IN THE LATIN WORLD TO ALSO FEEL LIKE WHAT I FELT WHEN I WAS GROWING UP WITH ALL THESE BALLADISTS WHO I WANT TO SHARE A LOT OF BALLADS, A LOT OF ROMANTIC THINGS WITH THEM. I WILL KEEP DOING MY URBAN SONGS. THEY ARE SUPER FUN. TO GET DRUNK AT THE CLUB AND STUFF.

>> SOUNDS LIKE THAT MIGHT HAPPEN A LOT.

>> NO. I'M ALL TALK, BRO. I'M ALL TALK.

>> KEEP IT IN THE MUSIC. IS THIS POP ALBUM THE SAME AS THE ACOUSTIC ALBUM?

>> IT'S THE SAME.

>> WHEN CAN WE EXPECT THAT? ARE YOU THINKING THE TOP OF 2019?

>> FIRST SEMESTER. I WILL SEND YOU A COPY KEVAN.

>> STAY LONGER THAN --

>> I WILL SEND TEN COPIES.

>> AUTOGRAPH THEM.

>> GIVE THEM TO YOUR GIRLFRIENDS.

>> EXACTLY. I DID WANT TO ASK ABOUT A COUPLE MORE COLLABORATIONS QUICKLY. THEY ARE INTERESTING TO ME. QUINCY JONES.

>> OF COURSE. AMAZING. AMAZING PRODUCER. THAT WOULD BE CRAZY. IT'S ONE OF THOSE DREAMS THAT YOU KNOW CAN'T COME TRUE.

>> WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL.

>> DEFINITELY.

>> WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL. THERE'S SO MANY PEOPLE I WANT TO WORK WITH. ESPECIALLY IN THE AMERICAN MARKET THAT I HAVE HAD HUGE INSPIRATION AS WELL. HE IS CANADIAN, BUT MICHAEL BUBLE. JOSH GROBAN. BOCELLI. AND HIS SON SINGS LIKE HIM. IT'S CRAZY.

>> SPEAKING OF ED, THEY LINKED UP LAST YEAR ON THE REMIX.

>> SO WE HAVE THE SHOW OUT AT NJPAC IN JERSEY ON FRIDAY. YOU ARE WRAPPING UP A TOUR HERE. IS IT FULL ALBUM PREP MODE?

>> WE ARE FINISHING THE U.S. TOUR ON NOVEMBER 4th. THEN I AM LEAVING TO L.A. FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS TO FINISH THE ALBUM. WE'RE GOING ON TOUR IN MEXICO. I HAVE EIGHT SHOWS STRAIGHT. THEN I HAVE -- YEAH, LIKE EIGHT SHOWS. THEN I'M GOING TO THE LATIN GRAMMYS FOR, LIKE THREE DAYS OR FOUR.

>> PERFORMING.

>> PERFORMING AT THE LATIN GRAMMYS. WE'RE NOMINATED FOR SONG OF THE YEAR. THEN I WILL BE ON TOUR STILL IN MEXICO. AND I HAVE A BUNCH OF CONCERTS AND THINGS IN COLOMBIA AND SOUTH AMERICA. I HAVE STUFF IN ARGENTINA. WE'RE TOURING BASICALLY ALL YEAR, FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. LAST YEAR, I HAD 221 TOURS IN 86 CITIES AROUND THE WORLD. THAT'S NOT INCLUDING ALL THE PROMO AND VIDEO AND OTHER THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING. IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. IF YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING, DO IT YOURSELF. WORK HARD. LEAVE IT ALL TO GOD. I JUST ASK HIM FOR ENERGY ALL THE TIME TO GIVE MY 150% IN EVERY SINGLE THING WE DO AND TO DISFRUTARLE -- HOW DO YOU SAY -- ENJOY IT. HOW DID I FORGET A SIMPLE WORD LIKE ENJOY?

>> YOU ARE SO BUSY. THERE'S PROBABLY NO TIME TO DATE.

>> DELICATE SUBJECT, BRO.

>> IS IT? WHAT IS IT DATING LIFE THESE DAYS?

>> THE DATING LIFE IS PRETTY INTENSE. NO, JUST KIDDING. I MEAN, IT'S HARD TO HAVE SOMETHING STABLE. YOU KNOW? IT'S HARD TO OFFER SOMETHING STABILITY. YOU CAN'T MAKE FALSE PROMISED. I'M GOING TO BE THERE. YOU ARE REALLY NOT GOING TO BE THERE AT THE MOMENT. I DEFINITELY WANT TO GIVE A SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP TIME AND PRIORITIZE THAT AT SOME POINT IN MY LIFE. NOT RIGHT NOW. I LOVE WHAT I'M DOING. I THINK I HAVE SUCH A BIG OPPORTUNITY WITH MUSIC TO TOUCH SO MANY PEOPLE'S HEARTS. MY MIND IS FOCUSED ON THIS. OF COURSE, IF I FALL IN LOVE WITH SOMEBODY, THE RIGHT PERSON COMES, IT'S -- GOD'S TIMING IS PERFECT. I WILL FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK. IF SHE LOVES ME, TOO. WHAT IF SHE DOESN'T? THAT WOULD SUCK.

>> THAT WOULD NOT BE GOOD. SPEAKING OF PEOPLE THAT LOVE YOU, WE HAVE GREAT FANS HERE IN ATTENDANCE. WE HAVE QUESTIONS. THE FIRST IS FROM THE FRONT ROW.

>> HELLO. HOW ARE YOU?

>> GOOD. BASED ON YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

>> I THINK I WOULDN'T TELL MYSELF ANYTHING, ACTUALLY. I FEEL LIKE IF I HAD TOLD MYSELF SOMETHING, THEN I WOULD CHANGE THE THINGS I HAD DONE. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? IF I GAVE MYSELF ADVICE, I WOULDN'T HAVE WORKED AS HARD AS I HAVE. WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE -- WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE CERTAINTY -- UNCERTAIN -- WHEN YOU HAVE UNCERTAINTY OF WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN -- I'VE BEEN IN COLOMBIA FIVE YEARS. I SPEAK SPANISH ALL DAY. WHEN YOU HAVE UNCERTAINTY OF WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, YOU FIGHT SO MUCH MORE FOR IT. IF EVERYTHING WAS SECURE AND SOMEBODY TOLD YOU YOUR DREAMS WILL HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WAKE UP AT 5:00 IN THE MORNING EVERY DAY OR GIVE YOUR 200% EVERY DAY. YOU WILL BE LIKE, IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN ANYWAY. WHEN YOU ACTUALLY HAVE SOMETHING TO FIGHT FOR AND PROVE IT TO YOURSELF, YOU DO IT WAY BETTER. YOU MESS UP A LOT. I HAVE MESSED UP A LOT IN THE PAST 12 YEARS. THAT'S GOTTEN ME WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW. IF I TOLD MYSELF SOMETHING, I WOULDN'T BE IN FRONT OF YOU ANSWERING THIS QUESTION RIGHT NOW. THAT WOULD BE SUPER SAD.

>> GOOD ANSWER.

>> THANK YOU, LOVE.

>> GREAT QUESTION. WE WILL GET THE SECOND QUESTION OVER HERE.

>> WE LOVE YOU.

>> I LOVE YOU, TOO. CAN WE HUG IT OUT?

>> THANK YOU. THE QUESTION WE HAD WAS OUT OF ALL THE CELEBRITIES OR ARTISTS YOU HAVE WORKED WITH --

>> WHO IS THE ONE THAT LEFT YOU THE MOST STAR STRUCK?

>> WHO I'VE COLLABORATED WITH?

>> OR IN GENERAL, WHO IS SOMEONE YOU TRULY ADMIRE AND YOU HAVE MET?

>> I REALLY ADMIRE MY PRODUCERS. THEY ARE NOMINATED RIGHT NOW AT THE LATIN GRAMMYS FOR PRODUCER OF THE YEAR. THEY PRODUCED MY ALBUM. THEY ARE DOING EVERY GENRE AND EVERY GENRE, THEY DO IT AMAZING. THEY ARE THE BEST SONGWRITERS I HAVE MET. THEY ARE BIG WORKERS. WE HAVE AN AMAZING RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE BEEN BUILDING. I STARTED FIVE YEARS AGO. I RELEASED MY FIRST SINGLE. WHEN I MET DONDI, I WAS LIKE, THIS GUY IS GOING TO BE THE BIGGEST PRODUCER IN THE LATIN WORLD. WHEN THEY STARTED WORKING TOGETHER THREE YEARS AGO AND I SAW THEM WORK TOGETHER AND WE WROTE A SONG IN 15 MINUTES, EVERYTHING JUST HAPPENED QUICK. WHEN WE WROTE THE SONG AND STARTED WORKING THOSE DAYS, I TOLD MYSELF, THESE GUYS TOGETHER ARE GOING TO BE THE BIGGEST PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD. ONE YEAR LATER, THEY MAKE THE BIGGEST SONG EVER. I REALLY ADMIRE THEM. I'M IMPRESSED EVERY TIME WE WORK TOGETHER.

>> TOTALLY. GOOD JOB TAG-TEAMING THE QUESTION. YOU STARTED IT AND ENDED IT. TEAM WORK. WE HAVE TIME FOR ONE FINAL QUESTION. I WILL COME BACK HERE.

>> I LOVE YOU, TOO.

>> HOW ARE YOU?

>> I LOVE YOU, TOO, TOO.

>> WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE EXPERIENCE SO FAR WHILE BEING ON TOUR?

>> EVERY SINGLE THING WE LIVE DAY TO DAY IS MY FAVORITE. THERE WAS A POINT IN MY LIFE, MAYBE A YEAR AGO, YEAR AND A HALF, THAT I WAS LIKE, YOU KNOW EMOTIONALLY MESSED UP. I THINK THAT'S BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALLY KNOW HOW TO ENJOY THINGS. YOU KNOW? EVERY TIME WE DID SOMETHING, I WASN'T CONCENTRATING ON HOW AMAZING WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS. I WAS JUST SIMPLY THINKING, WHAT'S NEXT? WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT? I WOULD BE THERE IN THIS INTERVIEW. THIS INTERVIEW IS AMAZING AND BEING HERE WITH YOU IS EXCITING. I WOULD BE LIKE, WE ARE HERE BUT WHERE ARE WE GOING NEXT? WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TOMORROW? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO DO THE NEW SONG? WHAT'S SOMETHING BIGGER THAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER AND AFTER AND AFTER? I DIDN'T FOCUS TOO MUCH ON THE PRESENT. I'VE JUST LEARNED TO ENJOY EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING, EVERY SINGLE BIG THING. MY FAVORITE MOMENT IS ALWAYS THE ONE I'M LIVING RIGHT NOW.

>> WELL SAID. GREAT QUESTION, TOO. EVERYBODY LOVES YOU.

>> WE GOT TOGETHER BEFORE -- SHE TOLD ME --

>> TO WORK IT OUT. HAVE YOU PREPPED?

>> WE PREPPED IT ALL.

>> NICE WORK, EVERYBODY.

>> GOOD ACTING.

>> WE ARE UNFORTUNATELY OUT OF TIME. SEBASTIAN, THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY. BEST OF LUCK AT THE LATIN GRAMMYS. WE WILL KEEP OUR EYE OUT FOR THE ALBUM IN 2019.

>> THANK YOU. LOVE YOU SO MUCH.

>> ONE MORE TIME FOR SEBASTIAN, GUYS. [ APPLAUSE ]
